While this utility makes handling large numbers of files a breeze, sorting them may cause a few headaches. Directory Report's no-nonsense directory tree and file list interface looks novice-friendly, but it is powerful under the hood. Designed to help maintain large directories of files, it is very fast and easy to use.
On our test machine, Directory Report assembled a list of more than 33,000 files in just a few seconds. Choose a method to search for duplicate files, and this application takes only a few minutes to root them out. You can delete or move the duplicate files easily from within Directory Report. Especially useful is finding duplicate files using CRC checksums. The file rename function is also powerful. You effortlessly can rename multiple files using filters, or have Directory Report rename according to MP3 tags. The program's printing options shine. It takes almost no effort to print file lists in text, HTML or Excel format.
We did have some problems sorting directories, however. Often the program simply ignored the chosen sort and redisplayed the list in the previous sort. The trial is a short 10 days, but it's enough time to display this app's strengths. If you work with large groups of files, such as MP3s or photos, you'll find this application is one of the best for maintaining your directories.

"Used for electronic signature, improvements would help!"
Pros: Creates a CRC32 for FOLDERS as well as files (which I use to record in a paper register).
Cons: Insists on generating a new CRC for everything each time its opened.
Would like to choose position and number of things shown.Summary: To use as a signature generator it would be a huge improvement if it generates CRC only for the files/folder selected. Otherwise I have not found anything else that generates CRC32 for a folder on demand.
