  Version: Direct WAV MP3 Splitter 2.3

  "Most user-friendly MP3 splitting program out there"

  Pros: This is a very user-friendly and efficient tool for splitting MP3 files. It's fast since decompressing and re-encoding is not necessary: the original format is preserved.

  Although there are similar programs that are free (for example, mp3DirectCut), Direct WAV MP3 Splitter offers a unique combination of two features that I haven't found together elsewhere: (1) waveform display, and (2) customizable/editable list of split sections. Other programs seem to offer only one or the other, but they work great together!

  Here are my favorite features:

  -- Ability to mark segments directly on the waveform display (enabling you to choose split points at a glance) AND type in time points (for greater precision).

  -- Dynamic list of split sections, from which you can play individual sections (to double-check the split points), merge sections, and edit ID3 tag information.

  -- Customizable equal-time splitting and pause-detection splitting (in addition to manual splitting). Any combination of these can be performed in any order.

  -- Automatic track numbering when either automatic splitting mechanism (equal-time segments or pause detection) is used.

  -- Fast (practically instantaneous) loading of MP3 files.

  -- Friendly and responsive tech support (I got thorough answers for each of my two inquiries within a couple hours!).

  Cons: -- No volume/fade/normalize, cut/copy/paste, or recording features (as found in similar programs). But you can easily use a free program such as mp3DirectCut to do these operations first, and then split with Direct WAV MP3 Splitter. Both programs are extremely fast, and you won't be wasting any time!

  -- Zoom control is limited, offering only 3 levels that all seem like "medium" (no super-closeups or views of the entire file).

  -- A few minor bugs, such as incorrect loading of really small files and occasional Access Violation errors... but they are infrequent and seem to have simple workarounds (such as re-loading the file). Tech support indicates they are aware of these problems and working on fixes for the next release.

  Pros: My first attempt at splitting, found this software easy to use (for a newbie), will stick with this.
