The Defraggler helps computer users who feel their system is running too slow. This simple program performs a complicated task that streamlines your PC's thought processes, but be prepared for a wait.

This free unlimited download attempts to bring order to your scattered RAM. When a file is created, portions of the item are spread into free spaces throughout the hard drive. As more files accumulate the computer has to work harder to piece together the puzzle that has become your specific file. This results in a slow computer. Defragmenting seeks out all these matching pieces and lines them up, making work easier and faster for the computer.

Defraggler downloads easily and is simple to understand. Its display shows users how much memory is available on their computers and also performs a search to show exactly how many files are fragmented in the entire computer. From here you can choose to defragment all or select specific files for defragmentation. Experts recommend regular defragmentation to keep computers running smoothly, so the Defraggler offers a scheduler to automatically run the program.

Defraggler is easy to understand and performs its job well. There is a strange chart along the top that seems to move for no real reason and is best ignored, but is only a minor annoyance. In addition, be prepared for a long wait time. Defragmenting a computer can take dozens of minutes. Still, if you want to improve computer performance, this is a great place to start.

"Free, installs easy but runs for days"

December 11, 2011  |  By Garavanguy

 |  Version: Defraggler 2.08.373

Pros

Each and every SW Developer who contributes a usable solution for FREE deserves to receive a great deal of praise. Especially, when the package comes with a clear, appealing GUI and does what it promises to do. (Five stars!)

Cons

Runs for ever. On a 1 Tb HD with used space of 46% only, the defragmentation takes more than 1 day of run time. I think there are many ways to optimize the process in such and similar scenarios. Maybe it could be helpful to create a list of folders/files how they should appear on an optimized HD and just re-write the entire disk, since there is plenty of space available to play with.

Summary

Dear Piriform Developers, you can count on my additional one and a half stars once the run-time decreased. Thanks anyway!

"Works very well"

December 09, 2011  |  By Rons1941

 |  Version: Defraggler 2.08.373

Pros

Seems to clean up fragmentation (I think) - who can really tell. I had 6% fragmentation and after defrag didn't see much change in anything

Cons

I took a long time to defrag a 500 GB drive with only 35% used

Summary

Price is right (free). And it does apear to work

"Very good indeed"

December 08, 2011  |  By tnicholaidis

 |  Version: Defraggler 2.08.373

Pros

Simple to use, visually pleasing as you can see the activity and progress quite clearly

Cons

Why is defragging such a lengthy process ? Is it just this defragger or do they all take the same amount of time ?

Summary

It is definitely a better defragger to use than the windows one - simply because you can view the progress more clearly. I can't really remark on it's speed of defragging because I haven't used the old windows system tool one for years now - ever since I first got my hands on this Piriform defraggler. It's great and certainly efficient in its results.
