The Defraggler helps computer users who feel their system is running too slow. This simple program performs a complicated task that streamlines your PC's thought processes, but be prepared for a wait.

This free unlimited download attempts to bring order to your scattered RAM. When a file is created, portions of the item are spread into free spaces throughout the hard drive. As more files accumulate the computer has to work harder to piece together the puzzle that has become your specific file. This results in a slow computer. Defragmenting seeks out all these matching pieces and lines them up, making work easier and faster for the computer.

Defraggler downloads easily and is simple to understand. Its display shows users how much memory is available on their computers and also performs a search to show exactly how many files are fragmented in the entire computer. From here you can choose to defragment all or select specific files for defragmentation. Experts recommend regular defragmentation to keep computers running smoothly, so the Defraggler offers a scheduler to automatically run the program.

Defraggler is easy to understand and performs its job well. There is a strange chart along the top that seems to move for no real reason and is best ignored, but is only a minor annoyance. In addition, be prepared for a long wait time. Defragmenting a computer can take dozens of minutes. Still, if you want to improve computer performance, this is a great place to start.

"Great app, unique features, works on <5% free space, too."

June 24, 2009  |  By DiddlerDave

 |  Version: Defraggler 1.10.143

Pros

The folder it creates in C:\Program Files\ can be copied to and run from a flash drive.

It allows a freespace defrag. This is anot a run of the mill option.

Requires only 5% free space to work with.

Cons

Doesn't touch the MFT.

Summary

I've cleaned up 4 machines with it and it seems to work great.

I liked that I could install it to a local machine, and carry around the folder it creates in C:\Program Files\ and run it from a flash drive.

Another big bonus is that it allows a freespace defrag. I seemed to get the most bang for my buck, so to speak since it is free, by doing a full drive defrag, then a full freespace defrag, then a full defrag again.

It is especially effective on those files bigger than 2GB which Microsoft can't seem to defrag whatsoever.

It also does a great job on full disks, requiring only 5% free space to work with.

I only wish it could work with the MFT, too.

Did I mention it is free? It is just an awesome tool for non-profits like us who can't afford the $35/seat that the commercial offerings seem to think the function is worth. I've got trial versions of these commercial packages, and this works better anyhow.

"Well deserved 5 stars !"

June 21, 2009  |  By xBobsx

 |  Version: Defraggler 1.10.143

Pros

Defraggler is so easy to use and offers all the options you need to keep your machine running smoothly , including the ability to defragment individual files and folders as well as an in-built defragmentation scheduler.

Cons

None, would like to see an added option to defragment the page file as l free products do not have this feature only commercial paid defrag programs such as Raxco Perfect Disk.

Summary

Download & run this great little defrag program if your using oth.er defrag programs you will be surprised at how many fragmented files they missed .

"Simple and thorough"

June 16, 2009  |  By FlipD9

 |  Version: Defraggler 1.10.143

Pros

Thorough, a low requirement of 5% to defrag and will defrag hard drive files even when there's not enough space, shows defragmented files after analyzing and able to select just those files for a fast defrag, simple design, scheduler, easy to use,...

Cons

You have to wait long to finish, it looks like it does a deep defragmenting but I do not know if it needs that much time, not able to defrag multiple drives at the same time

Summary

I tested new versions of Auslogics Disk Defrag, Smart Defrag, and the new Defraggler in my sister's old HP laptop that has an almost full hard drive.

Auslogics Disk Defrag 2.0.0.12 beta
Pros: Thorough, it has a new scheduler, able to defrag multiple hard drives at the same time and has an option to shutdown when it's done, very quick, has a new look

Cons: It has a limitation of not defragmenting some files if there is not enough space, no Analyze option, not able to defrag lock files

Defraggler 1.10.143
Pros: Thorough, a low requirement of 5% to defrag and will defrag hard drive files even when there's not enough space, shows defragmented files after analyzing and able to select just those files for a fast defrag, simple design, scheduler, easy to use, and able to shutdown computer after it's done

Cons: You have to wait long to finish, it looks like it does a deep defragmenting but I do not know if it needs that much time, not able to defrag multiple drives at the same time

Smart Defrag 1.11
Pros: Quick, different levels of optimization and defragmenting (Defrag Only, Defrag and Fast Optimize, and Defrag and Deep Optimize) and able use them in scheduling defragmentation, it a auto defrag when computer is idle, and able to shutdown after defragmenting.

Cons: Least through than the other two programs, it has the limitation of Auslogics of not defragmenting some files if there is not enough space

Summary: For this test, after running both Auslogics and Smart Defrag, Defraggler worked the best in defragmenting my sister?s hard drive and gaining back 81.98% of space. Defraggler is a nice simple program and although it is not as through as Auslogics when just analyzing the drive, its able defrag hard drive below its required space and even defrag the files Auslogics detected that Defraggler?s analysis did not. Defraggler is a nice simple program for people who have time and are trying to defrag there almost full computer.

Auslogics is my second choice for a through defrag program but not able to defrag without the enough space required, it is somewhat pointless. If it had the capabilities of Defraggler to defrag files even without enough space and a deeper defragmenting, then it would an ideal program. Auslogics is still beta, so we might see an improvement on the final release of 2.0.

Smart Defrag is a very nice program that offers a Deep Optimize and Auto Defrag, but it is not as thorough. I am not sure if the Deep Optimize is even working but it is nice to have. Combine this with a more thorough defragmenter and it will be better than the other two programs.

Right now, I am keeping all three programs as my defragmenting tools to use for further testing. Why you ask? Because I want to know if Defraggler has Smart Defrag?s Deep Optimize already built in. Maybe when they have their new versions ready, that will I be able to decide which to stick with.

Updated on Jun 16, 2009

I forgot that Auslogics does have an Analyze option under Action

Defraggler needs to add a Custom scheduler to have the same flexibility as the other two programs.

"Defraggler is better than the Windows disk defragmenter"

June 16, 2009  |  By bradporto

 |  Version: Defraggler 1.10.143

Pros

Smarter
Lightweight
Faster
Detailed Reporting
Thorough

Cons

May fragment your disk paging file (the last file you want in more than one piece)!
FAT32 or NTFS only.

Summary

More complex defragmenting and re-assembling algorithms.
Install onto a thumb drive and run on any PC without needing to install.
Don't have time or patience for a full disk defrag? Process files individually, by relevance or by number of fragments.
Allows you to examine the contents of each cluster/container on the disk. Files, registry keys, variables, etc including file size.

This program is great. I defragmented my drive a few times with the original Windows defragger so that may have been what originally fragged my paging file. If I could have just one more feature in Defraggler, I would ask for the ability to boot into a page file defragmenter as PageDefrag does to remedy this terrible and unfortunately overlooked side effect.

"Absolute rubbish"

June 06, 2009  |  By heat1001

 |  Version: Defraggler 1.10.143

Pros

Can defrag individual files/folders i suppose

Cons

Said my files were 30% fragmented. took 50 minutes and completed and said 29% still fragmented. Worst of all I went from having 40gb free space to 34gb. Explain that.

Summary

Don not use waste of time

"Perfect, and it could be even better"

June 06, 2009  |  By kirsti77

 |  Version: Defraggler 1.10.143

Pros

Very fast and there is no competition as speed is concerned

Cons

The fastest way to defrag is to click "Analyze" and defrag fragmented files that are listed then. There is a DOS version of Defraggler with optional command lines but that is not available there for scripting this way.

Summary

Hopefully there will be some additional options for analyze and defrag listed files in form of command line or optioons dialog box which will allow to defrag at startup and shutdown to maintain a disk defragmented at lightning speed.
