If you don't mind the relatively limited word selection and the high-maintenance installation, this program offers a number of ways to learn Japanese. The app itself installs quick enough but requires the Japanese JME to run. This means that you'll have to follow the developer's instructions for downloading the appropriate files and configuring your PC. Once we finally launched the program, we liked its bright, easy-to-navigate interface, which is sure to keep students alert. Declan's Japanese FlashCards test your skills by letting you either match the correct English phrase to the Japanese word or vice versa. The app's audio mode helps hone pronunciation, while several games will quiz you once you've accrued a decent amount of knowledge. Unfortunately, the trial version only lets you access 70 words, not nearly enough to allow you to become fluent. Still, this program can make a valuable study aid for those seeking to learn the Japanese language.Publisher's description
From Declan Software :Declan's Japanese FlashCards is a fully configurable audio-based Japanese vocabulary flash-card program. The program has been designed to help students learn a large number of Japanese words as quickly as possible in a systematic, but fun and simple way. The program incorporates an audio feature that uses a native speaker's voice recordings of a word's pronunciation to aid the learning process. Word Files comprises more than 4.000 of the most frequently used Japanese words, each with a native speaker's voice recording of its pronunciation, and are available for free download from our homepage. The program needs to be registered to access more than three Word Files of greater than 40 words.
Version 1.2 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

Version: Declan's Japanese FlashCards 1.2
"Good potential, but marred by sloppy editing."
Pros: Uses sound recordings of phrases spoken by native speakers. This is far superior for learning to affordable text-to-speech solutions.
Reasonably good mix of exercises for drill-based learning.
Cons: Declan's products have always been marred by sloppy editing and proofreading. This is unfortunate in products for drill-based learning, because one runs the risk of learning faulty information.
The vocabulary search mechanism is not sufficiently flexible, and frequently produces incorrect results.
Declan has recently released a companion product, "Word File Creator," with which one can create vocabulary lists using their extensive download library of spoken phrases. This would be a welcome addition to the product if it were not priced at nearly $100-- clearly only teachers are targeted as possible buyers-- and if the vocabulary lists were not riddled with the usual typographical errors. One might also suggest that this feature should have been built into the FlashCards program in the first place.

"Looks cool at first... but not really useful!"
Pros: Looks somewhat cool...
Cons: Does absolutly not work for me!

Version: Declan's Japanese FlashCards 1.2
Pros: I bought the product and the registration code didn't work. I asked for a new registration code or fix the problem. After numerous e-mails I got a response that it is as easy as cutting the code and I need to get a life. The problem was that the program downloaded from here is an old version and when you click on register it goes to their website---for payment with no mention about the version etc. Also, support doesn't tell you this either. Anyways they told me to "get a life buddy" when I asked for a refund.
Don't do business with these people.
Cons: Rude support. The lists are not useful. Need more lists and better lists. This product is usless because of the lack of useful lists.
