Chinese is not one of the easiest languages to master, and this program does a decent job of getting you familiar with frequently used vocabulary. The program includes a dictionary and pronunciation audio files for some 2,000 Chinese words. You also can import additional lists or create your own. Exercises include looking at a printed word while listening to its pronunciation; multiple-choice tests that have you translate from English to Chinese and back again; and fill-in-the-blank vocabulary quizzes. We found the whole section on tonal pronunciation very helpful. The program lets you choose word order and control the time in between flash cards. We had no problem going back to spend more time on certain words, or tracking our progress overall. In general, this is a robust tool for beginning language learners who want to improve their Chinese vocabularies.
