This is a useful tool for either Chinese speakers or Chinese-language students looking to improve their vocabulary or simply look up the meaning of Chinese words. Unfortunately, the program forces you to invest in other programs from the developer's suite to take advantage of all its features. This dictionary contains some 20,000 words drawn from CEDICT (a public-domain Chinese-English dictionary). Though you can save words to a list for later practice, the list can only be downloaded into the Chinese flash-card program from Declan. That said, the program itself is easy to use and we had no problem during testing returning to words we had previously looked up for additional review. Though you can cut and paste words or characters into Windows applications, the steps are cumbersome; you right-click a word to copy to a clipboard, then transfer the text to Word, for example. Overall, this is dictionary that will come in handy for fluent Chinese speakers as well as for beginning students looking to bolster their vocabularies.Publisher's description
From Declan Software :Declan's Chinese Dictionary uses the 20,000-word CEDICT Chinese (Mandarin)-English dictionary database. Both the GB (Simplified) and Big5 (Traditional) versions of the databases can be used. Declan's Chinese Dictionary allows flexible searches of the dictionary, including pinyin searches (with and without tone numbers). The program also features a character-reference database, which displays radical information and stroke count for each individual character selected. Also included is a feature that allows custom word lists to be exported to Declan's Chinese FlashCards XFL files. Full integration with the Windows Clipboard also is included, allowing the characters, their pronunciations, or their meanings to be pasted into other Windows applications.
CNET Editor's Note: You will have to download and install the dicitionary databases manually following instructions in the program.

Version: Declan's Chinese Dictionary 1.0
Pros: bought the product and the registration code didn't work. I asked for a new registration code or fix the problem. After numerous e-mails I got a response that it is as easy as cutting the code and I need to get a life. The problem was that the program downloaded from here is an old version and when you click on register it goes to their website---for payment with no mention about the version etc. Also, support doesn't tell you this either. Anyways they told me to "get a life buddy" when I asked for a refund. Don't do business with these people.
Cons: The lists are useless. Support is rude.
