Publisher's Description
From ExperimentalScene:
DarkWave natively supports both x86 (32-bit) and x64 (64-bit) versions of Windows with native binaries compiled for each platform. The x86 and x64 versions can each only load plugins for that platform, i.e. the x64 version only loads 64-bit VST and DarkPlug plugins.
DarkWave supports multiple processors well, with an aggressively multithreaded audio path that can utilize multiple processors or cores by multithreading. The program soars on a Pentium D system with Windows XP 64-bit Edition.
The following plugins are included with DarkWave: MIDI Input, ES BrainSynth (Virtual Analog Subtractive Synth), ES SpatialVerb (Room Modelling Reverb Unit), ES DrumKit (Virtual Analog 909), ES Delay (Echo Effect) and ES Kick (Rave Kick Generator).

"Installs Additional Program"
Version: DarkWave Studio 3.7.1
Pros
I couldn't get the program to work.
Cons
Installs an additional program that I didn't want. As far as I could remember, I didn't see any option where I agreed specifically to install it. I'm usually very careful during a program install because I know that programs will try to get you to install toolbars and the like.
The program that it installed was ARO 2011 which immediately began advertising itself.
I would like to say that installing the program was worth the annoyance, but I couldn't get it to work. I'm using Windows 64 bit. Supposedly it is compatible with this version.Summary
CNET should remove this program. I usually trust CNET's ratings on programs, but they are way off base to rate this program so highly.

"It sure is repetitious as the reviewer says..."
Version: DarkWave Studio 3.5.2
Pros
The only pro that I can see is that it's free. Not much of a pro is it? I mean air is free.
Cons
There seem to be a lot of glitches in the program, for example when you have a few instruments going, something weird happens and you're not able to make music. It's very hard to understand, and yes the music you're able to make is quite repetitious.
Summary
I wouldn't recommend this download at all. What, so you can waste time? I can do that any old day on the internet. There's not really anything viable that you can produce with this download. I mean at the most you can create something more or less inspired. But it repeats the rhythm or "beat" after about 60 seconds. I mean imagine if you gave someone a demo tape like that, what they'd do with it after your gone. Let's put it this way; I don't want to know. I think I'd rather not be discovered. I just think about how depressing it is, and what it says about this world that a program like this is free. What does that say about society? And an editor gave it five stars? They really must be taking in the whole picture. Maybe they figure this is the best thing you can get for free, if that's the case I'm jumpin' out the window tonight. I'll here my free Pandora on the way down.

"Good, but needs work"
Version: DarkWave Studio 3.1.3
Pros
Basically, when it comes to a digital sequencer, you can do just about anything with it. On a performance I give it five stars.
Cons
On a user friendly scale, this thing rates a zero. User hostile is more like it.
Summary
First off, the help files tell you next to nothing. Searching "file" even tells you no records found. The biggest problem I have had is in retrieving a saved file. Totally inconsistant. One file came up completely intact. One file came up missing the Master links udner Studio, but would play. One file came up missing Master, Record and Mixer links under studio, would not play (extremely aggravating), but would record. It took 5 reinstalls of the software to get any of the files to come back up. And watch out with the View Options. If you are having difficulties and try to change anything, you will never get it back. I still haven't figured out how to interface the software with the Stienberger cubase softwar or any midi software.
OK. It took awhile but I figured it out. This thing begins with a "Studio" page where you have a "Master" and then load up a mixer, recorder, sequencer, beats, ect. If this page is scrolled up a position where the items at the top of the page are not seen when the project is saved, they will not be seen, or be able to be used, when the file is reopened. SO... If you have been working on a project, make sure all of the items are shrunk down (there is a right click "hide GUI" option) and can be seen on the Studio page and the problem is resolved. It took me most of Sunday morning to figure that one out.
It is extremely frustrating when you spend hours getting a particular sequence to be just right, and then try to bring it back up the next day and only part of it reappears. If ANYONE can figure out how this thig works, help would be greatly appriciated.

"The Product was not worth my bandwidth"
Version: DarkWave Studio 3.1.1
Pros
Based on what I could see from the various demo projects, the programme has some potential.
Cons
The programme is very confusing and does not provide any instructions. The overall design is a bit of a headache from a colour scheme stand point.
Summary
If you are prepared to spend a lot of time examining its interface, this programme may well suit you, but for the majority of users, I recommend LMMS, it is far simpler and provides many more out of the box features than this did. I was not able to make any music with this programme and I assume that most will have a bit of trouble figuring it out, so keep looking. I did give it two stars, however, because it appears to have some potential and may one day make me retract my review.
