CNET Editors' note: The unregistered version has the following limitations. The Media menu has been disabled, you are restricted to 10,000 lines of code, context-sensitive help will not be available, the app is unable to load 3DS model files and is restricted in the number of objects, and standalone executables include a Dark Basic Logo. Additionally, the app doesn't include all of the models, bitmaps, textures, music tracks, and sound effects.
Publisher's Description
From Fasttrak:
This tool blends together the power of DirectX and the ease of BASIC, and is designed to give beginners the power to create professional software. DarkBASIC sits above a powerful DirectX engine that handles 3D objects, bitmaps, sounds, music, speech, and animation. DarkBASIC is a tool you can use for almost anything. This update contains built-in translation architecture and bug fixes.

"Even the full version crashes"
Version: DarkBASIC 1.13
Pros
Plenty of tools for writing games.
Cons
Nearly all the software produced by TGC crashes or just won't run on some computers. The support people try but they admit they don't know why.
Summary
I was foolish enough to think that if I upgraded to the full package I would get reliability and support. The result was total unreliability and attempted support only.
Truly sad that the developers are not putting in the effort to make this wonderful product more reliable. -
"very awesome"
Version: DarkBASIC 1.13
Pros
i've tested it it works great nothing is wrong with it no matter what anyone says they probobaly have the wrong computer
Cons
nothing but the scripting is a little bit hard
Summary
awesome
It is a very easy script editor, in my opinion there is nothing wrong with the integrated editor, Though the DarkBASIC Pro is free now this is still a great software.

"DarkBASIC is a crude and primitive language"
Version: DarkBASIC 1.13
Pros
You can create simple programs with rather elaborate, animated, 3-D models with relatively little skill or effort. Programs with these features can be very short.
Cons
DarkBASIC makes it difficult to represent algorithms and data structures. For example, just try writing a hash table in it.
Summary
The language itself makes it extremely difficult to describe elaborate program logic and data structures. It has many of the limitations that QBASIC had, and a few that QBASIC didn't have. As a result, you end up creating gobs of global variables, your data structures tend to be global parallel arrays (your functions will take indices into these arrays), and GOTO statements are unavoidable.
The ubiquitous DO..LOOP construct is missing support for the "LOOP UNTIL condition" clause, which is supported by virtually every other BASIC out there.
You may manage to make a game that sells commercially in DarkBASIC, but MMORPGs and open-world simulations are too complicated to be done entirely in DarkBASIC.
There is a culture around DarkBASIC that promotes the kind of programming practices that are considered "evil" among professional programmers. These same practices were also popular among QBASIC programmers, back in the day, so perhaps the scene includes some of the same people. -
"the best ones and very easy to use"
Version: DarkBASIC 1.13
Pros
In my opinion it is one of the best ones and very easy to use
Cons

"Great!"
Version: DarkBASIC 1.13
Pros
No matter what anybody says I think this is a great and easy language for making games. I do agree that it has problems but that is why they made DB Pro. This is a great way to begin game programming, it was how I learned and I never looked back!
Cons
Uses an old version of direct X (7 i think) but DB Pro uses the new version so I don't really have any complaints.

"GREAT!"
Version: DarkBASIC 1.13
Pros
i use this in school, we learn how to use all of the software and learn to create everything, and as for the bugs, you need to go back and fix your entry codes or else it will suck, if you know how to use it, i would highly recomend dark basic

Cons
*failed to initiate, download is safe but the free service is un-eligable, i recommend you just not download this. *

"don't waste your time"
Version: DarkBASIC 1.13

If you want to crash and reboot alot, use Dark Basic. This thing crashes when you are just reading the help files.
