From The Interactive Institute II:
An app for generating and sharing content to support language learning through face-to-face interaction. Dare to Talk is an app to support the use of everyday interactions as the basis of language learning. Generate content before, during, and after your interactions with others in the target language, and share with your private learning group on SoundCloud. Recycle the content and build your interaction repertoire. Starting point: With this app you can record sound clips, take photos and make text notations. You can then share this with peers using SoundCloud and receive SoundCloud comments within the app. The app has two sides - Record and Share. Recordings are made in "Scenes". A scene can have several recordings, a photo, a title and a descriptive text.Learn more at http://www.tii.se/daretotalk Requirements: A SoundCloud account and membership to at least one SoundCloud group. Background & Intended Use: Dare to Talk is an application for bridging language learning activities of the classroom or a learning community with engagement in everyday activities outside of the classroom in everyday activities. Many people learn a new language by spending hours studying in a classroom with other students, guided by a teacher. What many of them dont realise is that just outside the classroom are thousands more people who can coach learners to improve their language skills. Everywhere learners go there are opportunities for them to drive forward their language learning by increasing the amount of time they spend talking to people and using that language in everyday situations. Prepare, Dare, Share is a method for enhancing learning from an encounter in everyday activities. The Dare to Talk app supports this method. Prepare: Before an encounter in the target language, sit down and think about the topic. Attempt to write down key phrases or words. For instance, before entering a store to buy something or before asking for directions. Dare: Engage in a conversation with someone in the language. Document as appropriate. Share: Afterward, sit again and write down content from the interaction. Dare to Talk supports generating and recycling the content of interactions to improve performance in the target language.
