Version: DFX Audio Enhancer Windows Media Player 8
"STOP Do not download this version."
Pros: The Sound is good. Definitely enhances the sound quality.
Cons: I had the DFX 7.5 version for Windows Media Player. In November 2006 I got a message saying new version available. That version was 8.019.
(How do you know the version? You just hold your mouse cursor over the Install file and the text will appear showing version)
Today (December 13th 2006) on my PC, which also had the 7.5 version also showed me the same message. Thinking its the new version that I had previously installed on my laptop, I downloaded and installed it on my PC.
To my surprise I realized, the feature where we can HIDE the interface and DFX will still continue the sound processing was gone. This means we can no longer HIDE the interface. So when Windows Media Player is playing any file, DFX interface will appear and the only thing you can do is Minimize it. It will stay on Windows Taskbar.
Earlier when you go to Options, there was HIDE INTERFACE but not any more. The last good version of DFX that I used was 8.019. Im not sure if the 8.021 version has the same problem. But 8.313 definitely has no HIDE option.
I had the 8.019 version install file of November in my Laptop. I uninstalled the new one and installed the older one in my PC.
So if you have an older version, dont change it.
I think DFX is a good software and they do not mean to create problems for free users. I think its a bug and that they forgot to add this feature in the latest version.
(Please note, as of now 13th December 2006, the version available here is 8.21. But on the DFX website 8.313 is available which i downloaded and I was not happy with).
