Publisher's description
From Cygnus Solutions :The Cygwin tools are ports of the popular GNU development tools and utilities for Windows NT and 9x. They function through the use of the Cygwin library which provides the UNIX system calls and environment that these programs require. With the tools installed, programmers may write Win32 console or GUI applications that make use of the standard Microsoft Win32 API and/or the Cygwin API. As a result, it is possible to easily port many significant UNIX programs without the need for extensive changes to the source code. This includes configuring and building most of the available GNU software (including the development tools included with the Cygwin distributions).
Version 1.5.19-4 is a bug fixing release.

Version: Cygwin 1.5.1
Pros: This is an excellent tool for developing *nix applications while still running Windows. It feels just like working on a real unix shell.
Cons: The installer could have been simplified more - You have to know exactly what you need to get it. But then again, don't judge a program by its installer :P

Version: Cygwin 1.5.1
"Fast, accurate, well written bash emulator... WONDERFUL!!"
Pros: Relieves me (and my files) from moving between platforms and frustration. Gives you full control on what you do (unlike Windows), just like any UNIX shell.
Cons: I wish it had the C shell and/or the K shell for more versatility.
