CyberDefender Early Detection Center

Publisher's Description

From CyberDefender:

CyberDefender Early Detection Center 3.0 helps keep your PC secure with robust antivirus and antispyware protection. Now with Dual-Core Anti-malware Technology, EDC 3.0 catches more viruses, spyware, and other threats than previous versions. EDC 3.0 takes every new file and runs it through two distinct scanning engines. If either engine finds dangerous files or processes, the file is intercepted and removed--or "quarantined"--so that it can't harm the user's PC. EDC 3.0 has recently received West Coast Labs Checkmark certification. CyberDefender's Argus Network is collaborative Internet security network. Based on patent-pending technology, Argus Network uses a secure peer to peer protocol to update computer users against a multitude of threats. Recent tests show that Argus Network 3.0 blocked 10 times the number of phishing attacks against home PCs versus the previous 2.0 version, as well as demonstrating increased malware search capabilities.

What's new in this version: Version 3.0 includes Dual-Core Anti-malware Technology to provide advanced detection and protection; new Link Patrol browser plug-in that protects you against phishing scams and malware Downloads; new custom settings that give you options to customize scheduled scan times, choose what PC areas to include or skip in scans; and additional enhancements.

    "Scamware, completely useless"

    January 4, 2012  |   By calicocrestedmj

Version: CyberDefender Early Detection Center 3.0

    Pros

    Not a single one

    Cons

    Piece of crap

    Summary

There are awful reviews on this product all over the web, it gives you false positives then asks you to pay to have them removed. Their site is actually blacklisted by several reputable sites/programs. By all means, do not waste your time or money on this product. Also I noticed that the 5 star reviews seem to be constructed mostly the same way, making me think they are not legit. Three lines for the pros, and two for the cons and summary....

"The amount of fake positive reviews on here is scary"

    December 15, 2011  |   By kumicho

Version: CyberDefender Early Detection Center 3.0

    Pros

    None at all.

    Cons

Read through the reviews, and note how many state "works great, only $150/year"... I can't fathom paying $150/year for junk like this, when there are so many other alternatives that *actually* work.

    Summary

    AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!

    December 10, 2011  |   By tealbuchi

Version: CyberDefender Early Detection Center 3.0

    Pros

They did get my facebook account able to upload pictures en masse again.

    Cons

Too many to list. Huge scam. Don't give them your credit card number.

    Summary

Massive scam. MaxMySpeed, CyberDefender, they're all the same company that's main goal is to get your credit card number and charge multiple payments (always the amount of $249)

"I PROMISE YOU THIS IS 100% SCAM!!!"

    December 9, 2011  |   By Scam_hater

Version: CyberDefender Early Detection Center 3.0

    Pros

If you have too much money lying around, and your computer is way too fast, this is perfect for you. For all real people, ABSOLUTELY NO PRO'S. If fact, I don't even think the first person you talk to is a pro, he's just a used car salesman.

    Cons

SCAM SCAM SCAM!!! I promise you this.

    Summary

This is an absolute SCAM, and we are embarrassed to have fallen for it. The only reason I post this is to make sure that they have a much harder time scamming consumers. You will first download their own "virus" from their website, then make you pay $39.99 for a salesman to try to convince you that your computer has hundreds of "errors" that can ONLY be removed by them. They will tell you that you need to pay them a total of $600 for several years of protection, and that it would be pointless to go buy another computer because they will make your computer "just like new." LIES! After two sessions of "repair" by a technician, which took many hours, we spent several more hours on hold with customer service to try to find out what they actually did. We already knew at this point that the answer was nothing...they even finally ADMITTED this to us!!

Do yourself a favor, put all your files that you want to keep on an external hard drive. Buy Windows 7, and install it by the method of complete system restore. It will completely wipe the slate clean and literally return your computer to factory condition. When you start up your computer again, simply reload all of your pictures, music, documents, etc. DO NOT GIVE THESE THIEVES A CENT OF YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY when you can do a much more effective job on your own.

    "Felt like a scam"

    October 24, 2011  |   By markgo1

Version: CyberDefender Early Detection Center 3.0

    Pros

    don't know

    Cons

It finds all these "so called" threats but will not delete them unless you pay them. Since I had checked my computer with other products that found noting, I am not sure if there were any real threats. Also it put other programs on my computer that I did not ask for and had to delete them, so it gets a negative for this too.
I also was tricked into downloading this this because it's download button looked like the CNET download, but is was an advertisment.

    Summary

This just felt like a scam, I uninstalled it, I hope it did not load any spyware or anything else on my computer. Would not reccomend

"Terrible product, terrible service, former tech"

    July 14, 2011  |   By khan4rtist

Version: CyberDefender Early Detection Center 3.0

    Pros

There are no pros to this software, it is the most poorly designed software I have ever seen.

    Cons

I used to work for Cyberdefender and I have seen countless issues with the software ranging from slowing computers down to the software literally detecting itself as a threat and taking itself out (which really isnt that bad of a thing)

    Summary

I wish I was kidding about how bad this software is. I have seen it detect ATI Video driver files, windows updates components, and yes even its own files as malicious. These are not isolated incidents either, I had at least 2-4 cases daily with our software being the cause of the problem. This software is so poorly built, that it slows down most computers. The worse part is that the sales idiots will sell this program indiscriminately to people who's computers are 10 yrs old and will slow them down to a complete crawl, and then the sales people will talk you into buying the service where the only solution would be to remove the same software that you had just purchased. Dont use this software, there is a free alternative called Microsoft Security Essentials. And if you notice....all of the 5-star reviews are short, to the point, and sound like a sales pitch....guess what this means? It means that those reviews were made by people within the company; and yes, they really do do that.

    "CyberDefender Internet Security"

    May 17, 2011  |   By needbulls

Version: CyberDefender Early Detection Center 3.0

    Pros

    None!! Run for your life!!

    Cons

Customer service takes HOURS, and you are more likely to get a hack than someone qualified. Normally have to go thru 3 people, answering same questions over and over. Speaking several foreign languages would be helpful.

    Summary

Terrible..bought for a computer that was slow, and temorarily improved. Talked into installing on perfectly fine computer..and pow..no end of troubles!.
Am no likely going to have to spend money with Qbooks technical support to get it to work properly again.
Every 'fix' usually results in another problem.. Have corrupted different registry files 3 times.
Different techs have different ideas, and usually, they contradict each other...
Also not real comforting turning over your computer, overnight once, to someone in the Phillipines!
Just terrible...am having it UNINSTALLED as we speak!

    Updated on May 24, 2011

IF YOU INSTALL THEIR SOFTWARE, AND THEY WORK ON YOUR COMPUTER FOR 10 MINUTES, YOU ARE OUT $179 PER COMPUTER...NO MATTER HOW WORTHLESS THE SERVICE IS. 3 OUT OF 4 TECHS HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THEY ARE DOING. ONE ADMITTED AS MUCH! OH, AND ONE TECH UNINSTALLED VIRUS PROTECTION, AND NEGLECTED TO RE-INSTALL IT....SO, NO PROTECTION FOR THE LAST WEEK
