With a smrgsbord of tools for working with digital photos and creating illustrations, the latest version of Paint Shop Pro hits the mark, but longtime users may be disoriented by the transformation.
The once-cluttered UI now features a straightforward, sleek interface that offers more automatic options for the most common photo-editing and organizing tasks. Novices will rejoice about the new Learning Center that provides clear instructions on the tool they're using. Unfortunately, to install the trial version and test Paint Shop Pro's powers, you need to create a Corel account on the company's Web site. In return for registering, this program offers about every tool you'll need for illustrating and perfecting your digital photos. Besides the standard assortment of drawing implements, you'll find such new additions as the Smart Photo Fix and Makeover Tools.
New tools and palette options help users quickly and easily retouch the subjects in their photos, remove objects, and add special effects. The all-encompassing feature set makes Paint Shop Pro a great bet for pros or anyone else craving a fine degree of control over digital images.
