Publisher's description
From Linkbyte Software :A powerful and easy to use Proxy/Firewall for internet connection sharing. ComTun has many advanced features useful for both business and home use. With support for access control and banner blocking, you have ultimate control of your connection. A fully customizable firewall protects you from hackers, and works seamlessly with the proxy service. ComTun uses NAT to give your clients a transparent connection to the Internet, and can be used to configure your clients automatically (with DHCP). Traditional daemons can also be used, if necessary, but in most cases are only needed to supplement the NAT connection. System administrators concerned with sharing connections with certain services or to certain sites will find that ComTun offers almost unlimited control over the client connection. User and group permissions can be used to restrict access to web sites, requiring a login before pages may be viewed. With remote administration, administrators can control ComTun from any computer.

Version: Comtun Pro 4.5a
"Very reliable connection-sharing/proxy-server software"
Pros: Supports all the most commonly used connection-sharing features, including NAT, route-mapping, proxy-server for HTTP, FTP, DNS, Realplayer, and so on. Configuration is very simple, and requires little or no user-attention once it's up and running. The biggest plus of all for me is that it lets VPN connections run over NAT, which I could never get to work before despite trying several other connection-sharing softwares. I personally only use PPTP with this feature, but the software also supports IPsec, and based on its excellent performance overall I have no doubt this would work just as well.
Cons: Reinstalling after an uninstall wasn't as smooth as it could be, with different parts of the software not all synching-up together the way they should on the first attempt. I configure networks as part of my job, so I struggled through easily enough with this by myself, but I'm not sure how responsive linkbyte would have been if I was a little less tech-savvy and I'd needed to call on them for support.
