CNET Editors' review
Comodo Firewall Pro provides a smorgasbord of information and options for advanced users, simple enough for beginners, and yet runs smoothly and silently in the background.
It's labeled Pro but this Comodo offers up a dragon's treasure of features for free. Running mostly hidden, Comodo rears its head most often during Security Alerts that ask about new Internet connections. Alerts contain basic outgoing connection information. The user must determine if it's safe. The connections monitor displays the Application, the Source IP and Port, the Destination IP and Port, and the number of bytes received and sent.
Overall, the features offered are not only comprehensive, but they're useful. So not only is there a Network Monitor, but it displays its rules clear enough for even the greenest security wonk to Google up the relevant terms. Whether you're in the Activity tab, the Security tab or viewing the Summary, which displays Security Monitoring, your current Security Level and useful system information such as your IP address and your MAC address, the program has been geared at all levels to help you understand where your 1's and 0's are going, and which programs are sending them.
Currently incompatible with Vista, Comodo also requires a reboot before using. Other than that, keep in mind that Comodo is freeware and it's hard to reason against using it.

"Great free firewall, and getting better!"
Version: Comodo Personal Firewall 2.1
Pros
Let's start with - it's free! I pretty much consider all FW's to be equal (I know that's not true, but good enough 4 me); however, Comodo's CPF does stuff I haven't seen from any other, free or paid. For the basic user, it provides solid security w/o any modifications to the rules, it's easy to define trusted applications, trusted zones (ie, your home network etc), alert levels, application monitoring, the list goes on. For the power user, you can customize network control rules (almost infinitely), set behaviour analysis to alert you on unknown connection attempts & activity. Great interface, easy to follow. Support is free, with quick responses (and something other than "uninstall/reinstall"), and the forums provide a lot of learning and other assistance from computer-guru types and Comodo staffers. As noted in cons below, I've experienced a couple negatives, but I think this is due, in part, to the high level of thoroughness by Comodo's product - other FW's I've used don't even address these things, and I know my current will allow the OLE connection to go thru, simply because the browser is allowed to connect - never mind what's using it!
I will be switching all my computers over to Comodo, as I think it's a great product, and will only get better as they listen to their users and try to make improvements. They have a great business plan and I like their gumption.
Cons
The language in the network control rules can be kinda confusing (probably not an issue for the basic user; I got help thru the forums) to understand how to set up & tweak rules. OLE Automation issue: Let's say abc.exe wants to access the internet, and tries to use explorer.exe (the defined "parent" app for browsing) to connect. CPF gives an alert. You deny the connect, and it's blocked. From that point until you reboot, CPF "remembers" the denial, and applies it (apparently) to the "parent" rather than the "child" app, thus blocking you from connecting to the internet.
On both these things, Comodo has acknowledged and I believe is working on them for future releases.

"perfect"
Version: Comodo Personal Firewall 2.1
Pros
I have tried basically and all of the rest just dont compare to the usability and security of comodo.
-
"Nice"
Version: Comodo Personal Firewall 2.1
Pros
It's the best free firewall out there. Even beats ZoneAlarm Pro. It's real small and fast.

"Great firewall, but blocks iTunes and not as user friendly as ZoneAlarm"
Version: Comodo Personal Firewall 2.1
Pros
I've been a ZoneAlarm user for years. I thought I'd try out Comodo due to rave reviews on this site, others, and in major computer magazines. It definitely is rock solid and as inpenetrable as they come. But...
Cons
It worked fine when the host iTunes machine had ZoneAlarm, and the new wireless slave (where I wanted to listen) had Comodo. Each time Comodo had an update, I had to enter the menu and allow iTunes as an application. Not exactly intuitive! Major problem: it blocked iTunes on either machine from talking to another when I uninstalled ZoneAlarm on the host and installed Comodo there, too. I tried everything to configure both systems, but no luck. So, I'm back to ZoneAlarm on both machines, and iTunes is working flawlessly. ShieldsUp tests can't penetrate ZoneAlarm, just as it couldn't Comodo. I found the menus lacking, too, compared with ZA.

"Its a firewall that is pretty good"
Version: Comodo Personal Firewall 2.1
Pros
It blocks stuff from getting in and thats what a firewall is supposed to do.
Cons
It stopped Avast from downloading updates. And other programs stopped working. I installed Zone Alarm again and everything was working again.

"Best Personal firewall for free..."
Version: Comodo Personal Firewall 2.1
Pros
As per out test this is the best firewall available for free for your PC.
1) Easy & Attractive User Interface which is User-friendly.
2) It allows user to define what he/she want to allow and what he/she want to block.
3) Automatically stops Suspicious Traffic
4) Less Resource hungry then any other competitors so you will never experience slowness in performance after Installation
5) Online Update feature bundled
6) Special features like component monitor & Application Behavior analysis will always protect your pc also gives you detailed information about what is happening in your PC.
7) Lifetime free licence
Overall this is the must have security software for your PC which will boost PC performance by preventing your PC from Online Evils
Certainly No.1 Firewall, which means business without doubt
Cons
Nothing.....

"Bugs"
Version: Comodo Personal Firewall 2.1
Pros
Apparently, according to reviews, its one of the least hackable of the free firewalls (but not of the paid ones).
Cons
Seemed to slow my system down enormously. Commodo would often prevent (or corrupt) internet access after it detected valid software trying to access the internet. I'd have to reboot to regain internet access. I'm using ZoneAlarm (free) and my system is faster.
