CNET Editors' review
Comodo has merged its antivirus program with Firewall Pro, creating a free security program that aims to be more to more people. Although this may frustrate some users who want only one program or the other, the installer does let you opt out of either of the components. Users are also asked to install the Comodo SafeSearch and Ask.com toolbars, so be careful if you tend to install on autopilot. CIS requires a reboot.
Resource management is better than before, with hogging all but eliminated. It provides a smorgasbord of information and options for advanced users, but it's simple enough for beginners, and runs smoothly and silently in the background. The version 3 interface utilizes a plain white color scheme and replaces old terminology with more intuitive terms such as Summary, Firewall, Defense, and Miscellaneous. In each, there are links to relevant security issues so users can drill down to learn more about how the firewall is performing. The firewall rears its head most often when Security Alerts ask about new Internet connections as the program "learns" your computer's behavior.
Shield-shaped buttons at the top facilitate switching between the antivirus and firewall modules, as well as a summary tab that provides a general overview. Users can toggle automatic scans of archives or downloads, scans on start-up, manage the quarantine, and schedule scans and definition file updates through a clean and comprehensible list of links. The definition file update crashed during its first use, but was stable thereafter. Scans completed at a reasonable speed, but were not blazingly fast.
A third pane, Defense+, provides more-advanced security options including locking down specific files from modification, perusing an active processes list, and protecting specific Registry keys. Comodo Internet Security's wide range of free services are generally good, but the firewall is clearly the strongest of the bunch.
Publisher's Description
From Comodo:
Comodo Internet Security, Comodo's award-winning free security suite, offers prevention-based, Default Deny Protection (DDP) technology to prevent malware in your PC. Conventional security suites ignore prevention, focusing only on the eventual detection of viruses. Basically, this means that it will allow all applications to access your PC resources by default as long as the application is not on your security software's blacklist of already known malware. Comodo Internet Security includes an extensive white-list of safe executables called the 'Comodo Safe-List Database'. This database checks the integrity of every file and application asking for access to your PC. Comodo Internet Security will alert you of potentially damaging applications before they are installed. This is a ground-breaking method of protecting your PC. Traditionally firewalls only detect harmful applications from a blacklist of known malware - often-missing new forms of malware that are being created and launched daily. Comodo Internet Security is continually updated and currently almost 3,000,000 applications are in Comodo Safe list, representing virtually one of the largest safe lists within the security industry. Put simply, the good stuff gets in, and the bad stuff gets nowhere near your PC's insides. Our latest version includes both DNS protection, to make sure the URLs you visit are safe, and the option oh installing the HopSurf toolbar, a new and innovative way to surf the Web. Comodo Internet Security is now available in 15 different languages, and comes included with a free 30 day trial of LivePCSupport. Best of all, it's free for life.
What's new in this version: Version 3.12 is a bug fixing release.

"Like the firewall"
Version: Comodo Internet Security 3.12
Pros
The firewall is great
Cons
Haven't tried the AV yet
-
"Best and Free."
Version: Comodo Internet Security 3.12
Pros
This review is just for firewall. Simply the best of them all. ZoneAlarm etc. are not as good at this. It's biggest positive is it's HIPS. Simply the best of them all.
Cons
Slows down the startup a bit. But afterwards, it runs smooth without any problems. And it's AV is useless. Firewall is the best.
Summary
Comodo is a must if you want to go for a firewall and free too. I don't like it's AV as it's not as good as it's firewall. While installing, you can disable AV if you like, you can enable it afterwards if you want. It has a grea HIPS - Host-based Intrusion prevention system that can stop or notify you from any changes made to you computer, and even registry. I really recommend it. It's the best I've used.

"So far so good, no problems at all"
Version: Comodo Internet Security 3.12
Pros
I installed it in place of Avast which was causing a conflict with Xobni. No problems now. Everything's running tip-top.
Cons
Nothing so far.
Summary
Good product. I'm very happy with it and am going to put it on my other PC when I have a chance.

"Resource Hog"
Version: Comodo Internet Security 3.12
Pros
Easy to use
Cons
Resource hog, misses alot of activity
Summary
Comodo is a poor excuse for a firewall I set up the program for maximum security and it was not catching when something was being changed that wasnt suppose to be. I was testing this program to install on my moms login of my laptop so she didnt get it infected and it didnt help at all viruses and trojans would still get through. I have had awesome results from spybot search and destroy's tea timer function and i caught everything i threw at it and then some!!!

-
"Didn't work for me"
Version: Comodo Internet Security 3.12
Pros
Pff, maybe that it has a lot of utilities in one program
Cons
Firewall: you need to know every uninfected process on your computer if you really want it to be effective.
Anti-virus: the scan freezes with a lot of files, like one of my Word documents, the program O&O defrag, and it can't cope with Malwarebytes.Summary
I think you'll be right. On my new computer I have Comodo too and it never gave me problems.
Updated on Mar 19, 2011
The good thing about it, is that it is free, it doesn't constantly gives messages about upgrading to the payed version, I also heard that it's quite safe and by now I'm used to it. That's why I keep it.
The bad side are these messages. A good firewall would give you more advise whether you should block a connecting program or it should automatically detect if it is a malware program that should be blocked, but this one doesn't. In that perspective it isn't a safe program at all, cause I just let most things pass, so I won't have problems with programs that won't update or can't connect to the Internet.
(I'm not saying this program doesn't give any advise, it does, but not enough.)
I think 4 stars would be a better rating. -
"One of the very best security suites."
Version: Comodo Internet Security 3.12
Pros
Keeps things out, unless I want them -- that is the essence of a good internet security suite. Ranks up there with the very best.
Cons
I don't have any cons.
Summary
Internet security suites are supposed to be on, and working, in the background. And the only time they interrupt you is when they encounter something that you should make the call on -- such as, changes to your registry. Are you okay with them, or are they bad? Comodo Internet Security 3.12 is the one I trust to protect me and my computer. Thanks, Comodo

Cons

"Ive used this firewall for Years"
Version: Comodo Internet Security 3.12
Pros
Ive installed this firewall on every computer ive ever worked on and used this firewall for almost 3 years now never with a problem updates are pretty frequent and it is very sturdy software
Cons
this firewall is not for the install it and forget it bunch of people as ANY !!! good firewall should alert you about any program that is trying to access system files or the registry or any incoming or outgoing software connections on the internet
Summary
a firewall is no good if it just lets every thing bypass if it lets every thing bypass there is no point of a firewall because any virus or hacker or hijacker can gain access to your computer and whats the point ?
this is what I explain to my customers you are paying 70.00 a year or more in some cases for software that is giving you peace of mind but not really protecting you it is like putting a band aid on a broken leg it looks good but is it really helping ?
