"Why anyone would give it more stars?"
Version: ClamXav 2.2.2
Pros
None that I can say other then its free
Cons
Real time monitoring? Resource hog when scanning, difficult to use for a beginner.
Summary
I had some free time and like trying software. This was free and I thought I would see how it worked. I was amazed at how old school this program is. Its like the PC anti virus of days back when Windows 95 was out. As far as I can tell you pretty much have to direct it to the files or folders you want scanned. Yes it will detect both Windows and Mac viruses. But that's coming from the program author. When I tried scanning I found my Macbook Air getting pretty hot and the cooling fan really sped up . Not sure why a anti virus program should do this? I have tried a free anti virus program from Sophos too and it looked and felt much more like a complete anti virus program with real time monitoring. I guess if you just want something available to test a downloaded file this would work. But I am skeptical of its value even for free.

"Can't use my Mac with ClamAV running"
Version: ClamXav 2.2.2
Pros
Offers the same level of security as the built in virus protection that comes with your Mac OS X.
Cons
Running scans using ClamXav caused my computer to become useless. It's not very robust software yet has leaves a huge footprint on your computer. If you plan to use ClamXav, beware of slowness on your Apple product. I guess this is normal behavior from ClamAV..
Summary
ClamXav is nice because it's "free," but it certainly doesn't run on the computer free of problems. The extra protection, if it offers any, is totally outweighed by how much it slows my Mac down when running scans.

"Love this one!"
Version: ClamXav 2.2.2
Pros
Great interface, wonderful control.
Cons
Have an older Mac, runs pretty slow.
Summary
Still, i highly recommend.

"Silent worker"
Version: ClamXav 2.2.2
Pros
Doesn't intrude in computer operations
Scans reasonably quickly
Loud sound when scan finishes
Lists viruses etc if found after scan
Recommends actions
FreeCons
May seem too simplistic
No real-time indication of potential threats
Unsure if working efficientlySummary
How can you tell if an anti-virus is working well? If you don't get symptoms of infection, is it because of your operating system, other security software that's installed, or if, indeed, you haven't encountered any bugs yet? If what happens is what you don't want to happen and your computer becomes infected, then your anti-virus security is no good. That's why I need to know in real-time of threats prevented and sadly this doesn't happen with ClamXav. If you're willing to take a leap of faith like I have and trust this works, then it's great. I've been using this for about 4 months with no infections as yet. Found some infected files which I deleted and that's why I am willing to give this 4 stars.

"Good Mac and windows virus protection, free"
Version: ClamXav 2.2.2
Pros
Protects both Mac and windows viruses.
Easy to install and configure.
Can schedule virus updates and scans.
It's freeCons
Would like to see status icon vs app in doc.
Does not check iPhone or iPad for viruses, although only software I'm aware of that does that is Intego, which is very good but not free.Summary
Free and functional Mac and Windows virus protection.

"OK but could be better"
Version: ClamXav 2.2.2
Pros
Given how much virus control software out there does not appear to play very well with Lion, this seems to be the best option.
Cons
I would rather see it in the toolbar at the top of the screen, rather than as a process in the Dock.
Summary
Will it still work the next time Lion upgrades?

"Easy Mac AV Program for free."
Version: ClamXav 2.2.2
Pros
Easy to install, small footprint and it works. Updates almost every night. Free price is an added bonus. Every Mac Owner should have this installed on their machine. Doesn't get much easier than this.
Cons
None. Works seamlessly in the background as it should.
Summary
Why pay money for an anti-virus program when this application is free?
