"Good Idea - But HORRIBLE Program - Totally DESTROYED my computer! STAY AWAY"
Version: Child Control 2008 9.950
Pros
Great Concept
Cons
The program literally DESTROYS your machine. It conflicts with every aspect of your computer. It gets so bad that you have to end up re-installing your operating system. I re-installed my Operating System and purchased Child Timer. Never had any problems with it.

"Child Control 2007 CRASHED and LOCKED my system! Beware!"
Version: Child Control 2008 9.601
Pros
Well, it looked okay when I first downloaded the trial version, BUT...within an hour of customizing the program it totally shut down my system and locked it. I couldn't even get into Safe Mode to open it back up!
I am running Windows XP and my husband got into the hard rive and uninstalled the software program--to now avail. Then, he did some other thing with F8 and got into Safe enough to boot up the system, but it keeps shutting the system down again.
I am guessing--at this point--that there is a software conflict and when it lokcs the system at the preset times, it REALLY locks the system. We uninstalled the software but I am going to re-install it (fingers crossed) and change the times on the users so that everyone defualts to the original settings. For some inutitive reason I suspect that the times I adjusted for my users are "stuck" into my XP system--even while the software is removed--and they will not unlock until I reset them with the software.
Bigget problem is that this company is in Germany and you can't just get on the 'phone and start calling tech support!
Cons

"A great program... that just doesn't work."
Version: Child Control 2008 9.39
Pros
The idea for this program is great - it does what Windows Vista does, combined with what various third party filters do, and then does a bit more!
The interface, while a little complex at times, is quite intuitive, and if you read the help file, it is easy to understand. It has loads of features, that all work well with each other, and this program SHOULD have got a four of five star rating...
Cons
... however, it got one star from me. Why? It just doesn't work. Not in that it doesn't do what it's meant to - as far as I could tell, it was working. The problem was - I couldn't see very far, as the program KEPT CRASHING.
I first installed it on my Windows XP machine. I've tried a number of programs like this, and often recommend them to clients, and I thought this one might become the top of my recommended list. I fired up the program, and it seemed to be working! It detected all the user accounts, and enabled me to set up settings for them. It was all very neat.
I closed it to the system tray to test the web filter. I opened up IE and it blocked my homepage as expected. Then stopped. As it wasn't doing it anymore, I opened up the settings box to try and see what was going on. No luck - the box wouldn't event open. I closed it and opened it a few times... it decided to terminate svhost.exe without my permission and Windows restarted itself, before rebooting telling me that 'This error was caused by software you recently installed. We strongly recommend you uninstall this software.' Oh dear! I decided it probably wasn't worth it - that can't happen to a client even once, seriously - so I went into the control panel to uninstall it.
The uninstall panel opened and asked me for my password. I gave it, and it loaded the install program... and crashed. It terminated explorer.exxe, which Windows restarted for me, then WinLogon.exe, which made Windows stop responding... then svhost.exe again, so Windows restarted again. This was repeated twice more, just to see if has any effect, before I was forced to boot to safe mode, just to get rid of it.
From there, I noticed that you don't require a password when uninstalling from safe mode, so that's an easy security measure to bypass.
Oddly enough, it never reached my Vista PC. All in all, very disappointed. I would advise against installing it if you do not know how to deal with error such as this - just in case it happens to you.

"Very good but..."
Version: Child Control 2008 9.328
Pros
This has done a very good job of PC time on/off, internet time on/off. Easy to set up and use. I use ZoneAlarm for filtering. A lot of people seem to have poor experiences with this program. I haven't but...
Cons
...but the time control feature (my main reason for purchase) seems to be failing. This MUST be a fault of my PC because another excellent product, ComputerTime, also failed after some time. That company did not know the reason for the failure and couldn't help me correct it. This company, too, hasn't been able to help me fix the problem. Extremely frustrating.
