Publisher's description of Calorie Calculator
From Signal Display Systems:Calorie Calculator is a program for estimating how many calories are burned while climbing a hill. The user inputs the height of the hill, body mass, rate of ascent, and hill grade (last two optional) and Calorie Calculator calculates a guaranteed minimum on total calories burned and the calorie burn rate. There are also options for swimming and running.
Version 1.2 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, and bug fixes.

- Version reviewed: Calorie Calculator 1.2
This basic utility computes the calories burned while climbing, swimming, and running, although it doesn't ask for some pertinent information in formulating calculations.
Calorie Calculator sports a dull interface. For climbers, it takes your body weight and running speed, the height and grade of the hill, and your speed to calculate total calories burned and calories burned per minute. Determining the grade of the hill is pretty cloudy since there's no help file to guide you on figuring this. Swimming and running rates are calculated using body weight and distance. The calculated calories burned for running and swimming don't take into consideration the amount of time it takes you to complete both activities, and, with no other program information available, we aren't sure if the application is using a static time estimate. Programmers even misspelled the word calculator, making the program seem amateurish.
Calorie Calculator gives a 25-day trial, although the aforementioned flaws stifle its reliability for fitness enthusiasts.

Version: Calorie Calculator 1.2
Cons: I entered 225lb climbing 1000ft at 2mph and 7 percent grade and it calculated 73012 calories! I should be dead!

Version: Calorie Calculator 1.2
Pros: I like the simplicity and I am tired of other programs giving me "inflated" results. This tool seems to make more sense - you take a distance and multiply by weight which is equal to energy. That is basic physics - not much more complicated than that
Cons: It does need some work when it comes to the GUI - I would like to see drop down menus and such - purely cosmetic things
Summary: I would still use it because I like knowing the minimum calories I am burning - it always goes up if I do more work and I don't get some "hocus pocus" magic based on some new doctor's findings that isn't based on physics. This program seems more hon... read more >>
