You'll have peace of mind while searching the Web with this impressive Internet Explorer add-on. CallingID for the Internet aims to protect you from phishing, pharming, and fraudulent Web sites. You have two options with the toolbar-style interface: stretch it across your IE window, or choose a smaller, more compact version to fit on a pre-existing toolbar.
The program uses more than 50 different verification tests to assess each Web page with one of three ratings: verified, low-risk, or high-risk. A verified site has passed all the tests. A low-risk site is not actively conducting business or not registered correctly. A site is considered high-risk if the owner's identity is hidden.
We really liked that it gave us the publisher's physical street address and the server location. The options are many, as you can choose which sites you want to block from receiving your personal info and which sites you want to receive your passwords. You can even block sites from certain countries. We tried each of these features during our tests, and each worked flawlessly. If you do happen to come across a site that hasn't been assessed or you deem to be fraudulent, the report option lets you report the site yourself.
There's really not a bad thing we can say about CallingID for the Internet. It's simple, compact, and offers extra security while on the Web. And, most important, it's free. Users of all levels should definitely give this program a shot.

Version: CallingID for the Internet 1.6.0.67
"Good addition to your overall security"
Pros: Sits unobrusively in your toolbar until a loud noise and a red visual indication says site owner hides identity. Then be wary of that site unless you "know" it's safe.
Cons: When first going to banking sites, it can take a few minutes to verify that the site is safe. (After all it is putting the site through 54 tests of authenticity.) I 'd like to know what those tests are, but if it works, who cares?

"Why No Editor(s) Rating(s) ???"
Pros: (I have given this a rating of 2 stars with a 2 month experience record) I downloaded this program in Sep/Oct 2007and found it conveniently useful.Thoe haveing purchased a new PC last christmas and returning to C|net I have come to find that there are no longer any editors ratings, why is this and can anyone give me an answer?
Cons: Believeing the software/program to be genuine? is it not a must that everyone should possess the advantages of this security protocol? hmm.. i wonder.
