You won't get pricked by this helpful e-mail spam filter, but training it to recognize spam takes a little patience. Cactus Spam Filter's interface is a lesson in simplicity, with plain text and logical controls. The program's installation had to be one of the easiest we've found in this genre. The filter works almost instantly for 12 major and minor e-mail clients.
That said, you still have to train the filter to recognize spam. If you already have hundreds of spam e-mails in your deleted folder, you'll jumpstart the training process by choosing an e-mail in Cactus Spam Filter's Training Arena and clicking "Spam" or "Good." After following that process a couple hundred times, the utility becomes proficient in finding spam.
With select e-mail clients, you can choose to automatically place the found spam in a special folder or automatically delete it. No matter where you put the e-mail, the program alters the e-mail's subject line to identify it as spam.
The user's manual barely takes up a page, but that's a testament to how easy the program is to use. A few potential users will be disappointed that it only filters POP3 clients. Nevertheless, anyone who uses an e-mail client will find this freeware easy to install and use. Simply put, Cactus Spam Filter dries up your spam.

"I foolishly tried to install this."

I downloaded Cactus and installed it -I ended up with something called 'mixidj' installed on my computer. It made registry changes to my computer, adding a mixidj toolbar to IE, Chrome and Firefox browsers and made 'conduit. search' the default search engine. I was able to clean up Chrome and FIrefox but IE -something I never use- could not be fixed.
Registry changes; clearly malware. Also added links to Bing, another useless tool.Summary

It keep crashing. I'm using Outloook 2010. I've got about 100 emails yet, and it crashed 4 times. A crash occured when i've clicked on the "New Mail Desktop Alert" (the envelope in the traybar). Every other time it just crashed when Outlook was synchronizing with my mail server.
I've several email accounts 1 Hotmail (MAPI), 3 others (POP3). Is that the reason of the crash? I don't know. None of my POP use SSL.
This app is just unstable, and i won't train this application for 300-500 emails and see if it does a good job or not when this kind of problem occur. -

Summary
Because of the secure SSL Settings required to connect to Yahoo's SSL Servers, the program cannot establish a connection to the POP3 (Port 995) or SMTP (Port 465) Servers, even after manually changing the settings. Also the program changes the incoming POP3 address "pop.att.yahoo.con" to "Local Host" and this change cannot connect to the SMTP Server!

It does what is says ! Takes a little training, but nothing unreasonable.
Cons
SUGGESTION: Rather than deleting emails from the "Training Area", go to the "Training Folder" and use a "delete with wiping program". I >assume< the deletion option in the "Training Area" executes a normal delete (directory entry only).

Works perfectly once you take the time to train it. Training ensures only bad emails are blocked. This is great software for anyone who takes the time to understand and execute the steps required. It's not complicated, but it takes some commitment.
Cons
Not for impatient people who expect instant results with no effort.
