Version: CSE HTML Validator Professional 6.53
Pros: I run a commercial website and along with Dreamweaver and my Java development tools, HTML Validator is invaluable in detecting errors in dynamically generated pages.
Cons: Is very picky about the case of tag attributes (wants them to all be lower-case) and 7.0 has detected one false issue (which will probably be fixed with an update).

"simple to use and very effective tool"
Pros: as an amateur web designer this simple little program quickly and easily corrects my mistakes whilst teaching me what I've done wrong so I can improve with time.
Cons: defaults to top of root directory every time it's opened. I'd prefer if it just stayed where you left it.

"Great product just gets better"
Pros: Validation details nicely broken down by category instead of thrown in one big pot for the user to sort through. Good advice on accessibility issues, including a breakdown by WCAG priority levels. Clean but powerful multi-pane interface. Improved XHTML and CSS syntax-checking, the latter with an assist from TopStyle. Validation can be turned on or off on a per element basis, which puts the user in control of the process. The program is file-oriented but there is a robust batch mode that allows checking of entire directories, complete with a consolidated report.
Cons: Not perfect, but validators are tracking a moving target, so you can't expect perfection. There is no reformatting tool and no clean way (yet) to integrate CSE with the reformatter in HTML-TIdy.
