CPU Speed Accelerator for Mac

Publisher's Description

From AlphaOmega Software:

You want to increase the power of your Macintosh at very low cost? You want to increase by 20% to 30% the speed of your applications without spending money in new hardware? You want to always automatically make the most of the power of your CPU to the foreground application you are using?
Then CPU Speed Accelerator is what you need!

CPU Speed Accelerator allows you to drastically increase the CPU allocated to your foreground applications to make the most of the power of your Macintosh.
- It can increase by up to 30% the power of your Macintosh.
- It automatically detects the foreground application you are using.
- It redirects unused power of your CPU to the foreground application.
- You can set the percentage of acceleration to assign between 0% and 100%.
- It requires the root administrator password to be activated.
- It uses the UNIX layer of Mac OS X and tells the Process Manager to always assign the maximum priority to the foreground application.
- It appears in the right side of the menu bar.
- It doesn't need any installation which makes it very easy to use.
- It is available in Dutch, in English, in French and in German.
- It is compatible with Extended Software Updater.

"This Little Gem Is Amazing & Will Have Your Machine..."

I was singing the blues because I can't justify spending the bucks to buy Apple's latest and greatest, and with all the dodad software that I've added requiring background CPU cycles, my venerable G4 PowerBook was getting to be like my old dog Delilah -- a bit creaky and slow. Then I ran across this little gem, and very nearly didn't try it because it sounded like snake oil for sure. A little voice interceded and said "do it, do it" and the rest is bliss. My creaky old G4 is once again singing and on top of the world. So far, no problems, no conflicts, no crashes or lockups - just sweet new life in the fast lane for a very old dog! Tres excellant to the french guy that came up with it!

Works for me no problem. I like the gui and it also saves me having to Terminal every app. I want accelerated.

If there are comparable freebies, what are they?

    "I am testing here"

    Version: CPU Speed Accelerator 2.10

    Summary

Well, let me say. I use their linked applications launcher (registered) and that tiny application makes marvellous things when you finally setup to your links.

The good thing about the linked applications launcher is: It never, ever crashed once in lifetime (well, 3-4 months) which is impressive as its a "menu extra" and also does a job like watching which application launches or quits.

As I am a folding@home user, OS X team I noticed very interesting things about priorities on OS X and some apps.

For example: Earthbrowser _does_ know its a heavy cpu user so it tries to be polite and uses the idle cpu cycles. I got Folding quit on such applications thanks to other utility above.

I got thinkfree office. Many of the JVM (java) of OS X is set to run in low priorities, meaning: The mp3 played on iTunes is more important than the 200 page document you work on.

The difference between this and other utilities is: It doesn't need your attention. Just like linked apps launcher, it sits there (and hopefully) does its job.

I don't need overkill so, I just setup it 25% acceleration.

You would normally need to click the "other utility", find the app you want accelerated (99% time frontmost) and let it renice. This one does it automatically.

I'd say as its a paid utility an option like "advanced settings" and set individuals would be fine.

AtuGuy is a liar and undoubtably works for, or is the developer of AlphaOmega Software. Read the review history of all the AlphaOmega products on VersionTracker to see the kind of company you're dealing with.
This company has one distinguishing feature: They are perhaps the worst and most hated developer of worthless, buggy, rip-off, and dangerous Mac software EVER.
But don't take my word for it. Go ahead and install any of AlphaOmega's products on your machine and see what happens. Don't say you weren't warned.
