    Version: Blink Personal Edition 3.2

    "GodSent"

    by techaddict69 on September 28, 2007

Pros: Highly effective FREE security suite.

I put this on a shared family computer I administrate. Before I started using this program that computer was a virus/spyware infested zoo. This program cleaned it up and it has stayed clean, which is a miracle. The other 4 users I share that computer with are total morons who would shut off the antivirus and/or anitspyware programs to use limewire, and insist they keep an administrator account. Every time I'd log in, I had hours of work to do fixing the machine until I found and installed this application (and I left Symantec corporate anti virus running in as well). This application has improved my life and my relationship with the other users of that computer significantly. Thank you Blink.

Cons: This application requires a decent amount of computer knowledge to administrate, can be a bit of a resource hog, and the security is stronger than many advanced users prefer. For those reasons I don't run it on my laptop, and since no one else touches my laptop I don't need it. A standalone antivirus, & anitspyware application work fine for me many advanced users who would have the wherewithal to administrate Blink.

This application is best used in cases where a skilled computer user is administrating the computer of less skilled user, which is prone to viruses and other problems. This program would be perfect for a child's computer, roommate, or other family member, who is constantly asking you (a tech savvy person) to clean viruses off of their computer. Think of it as computer cipro.

    "Pure awesome"

    by The_Bob_Dolemite on September 26, 2007

Pros: Firewall, Anti-Spyware, Anti-Virus, Vulnerability assesment, Application Firewall, Registry protection Etc. all in one console.

Cons: Uses Norman Anti-Virus which is not bad, but not real good. Requires some working knowledge of security apps. but is easy for a novice to negotiate.

    "Great product"

by rinren on April 24, 2008

Pros: I saw a demo of this product against Cisco's and MaCafee's "Antivirus" and "IPS". Basically they tried to exploit MS04-041, Sasser, which is a known virus and the Cisco agent shut down the PC and the MaCafee did nothing. Blink stopped the attack. I have run into several viruses on PC's that Symantec, CA, Trend and all other big name companies can't stop or clean but Blink killed the process and cleaned the virus. Yes it seems to be a resource hog at first but it basically takes an EXE and runs it in a virtual XP instance to make sure it is safe. After that it keeps track of the MD5 hash so it never has to scan that file again unless it is changed. I use this on my home PC with no issues. I am now looking to implement it in the company I work for and so far I have installed it on 8 PC's and 1 server and caught 8 viruses that Trend had no idea existed. eEye, which created blink, has been discovering the vulnerabilities in software before the software vendors do and they, if needed, write a rule to block the vulnerability so not just one virus is stopped but all of them are.

If you get viruses frequently or know someone who does I strongly recommend this product.

Cons: non tech people will think it slowed down their PC but in fact it is actually working hard to protect them. Give it some time and you will see the benefits

"has potential, but needs a lot of work."

    by davidis99 on November 10, 2007

Pros: The idea of a freeware security suite that incorporates antivirus, antispyware, personal firewall, and intrusion prevention is a great idea for a product to compete with commercial suites.

Cons: However, the idea doesn't meet with expectations. The firewall, in my testing, was no better than the Windows firewall, while the antivirus protection was fair and the spyware protection poor, and the host intrusion prevention did not trap the unknown threats used to test it. Further, on a clean install of Windows XP, the program broke/crashed after 2 or 3 reboots and never loaded properly after that.
