Publisher's description
From AuctionSage Software :BidSage is totally free software for eBay bidding/sniping/bargain hunting. This special purpose Web browser/database/search tool/bidding tool is designed to help you organize your eBay bargain hunting. Bidsage has snipe capability with no limitations on the number of snipes per month. It's totally free with no strings attached (no crippled features, no time limit, no limitations whatsoever). It will empower you to find bargains on eBay that you would almost certainly miss if you shop eBay via a conventional Web browser. Being able to retrieve all the items matching a given search specification or category number and being able to sort by any field (bids, bid, ends, description) gives you power that you just can't get working eBay with a browser. With BidSage comes SnipeMonitor, which allows you to close BidSage, and snipemon runs in your system tray waiting to activate BidSage three minutes prior to the next snipe event.
Version 3.0 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

Version: BidSage 3
"terrible program! Works when it feels like working!"
Pros: when this program works - its great!
Cons: Don't even think about using this program if you really want to place a bid! Over HALF the time it LOCKS UP your computer!!!! It gets to the bid - and DIES! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! Removing the program, re-isntalling it does help (for a few days) then the problems start all over!

Version: BidSage 3
Pros: It's free.
Cons: I couldn't get this program to work. I tried to test it out by using the Place Bid function to make sure it could log in to my ebay account. Every time I tried, it went to a "problem logging in" page. I use Mozilla Firefox and that page said what needed to be done with Internet Explorer to make things work. I changed IE to my default browser, changed the settings that needed to be changed, and it still wouldn't work. Maybe there's a patch or something I need but I can't find anything on the publisher's site. Oh well.

Version: BidSage 3
"Misleading - this is not freeware but in fact rather expensive"
Pros: Seems to have some nice features.
Cons: Despite the claim of being "free", you are given a trial edition of the software, after which you have to pay $80 a year for its use!

"Do not use for critical items!"
Pros: No positives.
Cons: No way to test the bidding system. Virtually no configuration options. Product seized and failed on the first try. Lost an item. Beware. Better off buying a decent program.

"Awkward user interface. Buggy functionality. Barebones features."
Pros: It's free. And in theory (though I was never brave enough test the feature), since it places bids directly from your own machine, you don't have to worry about registering your eBay login info with some strange server.
Cons: The user interface is awkward and counterintuitive, and it looks like it was designed by a child. Screen elements respond strangely to mouse clicks. The interface is littered with annoying clipart and fuzzy text effects that serve no purpose except to make things hard to read.
Before the program will work, you have to go to the author's website and download the latest patch. And you will have to do this again each time eBay changes the design of their site.
Locating specific auction items is distressingly difficult. There is no browse option. There is only a basic text search feature that isn't powerful enough to be useful except for finding uncommon items. If you use common search terms that yield a lot of results, you will have to wait an eternity (sometimes hours!) while BidSage processes one result at a time.
The final straw for me was the buggy interface. Two out of three times when I tried to add an auction item to the program's Watchlist, the Item Details window bugged out. The only button on it that still worked was the "Bid Now" button, and there was no way to close it except to terminate the process from the Windows Task Manager. The only features that seemed to work right were the eBay/system time synchronization, and the paid advertisements.
I won't trust such a glaringly buggy and poorly written program to place legally binding bids for me. BidSage's best feature is its fully functional uninstaller.
