Bible Pro

CNET Editors' review

by: CNET staff on June 30, 2009

This program is a convenient way to carry the Bible with you on your personal computer, and provides many handy tools to facilitate Bible study. It's a great resource, particularly for students, ministers, and teachers.

The interface is clean, easy to use, and has options for turning parts of it off and on for uncluttered viewing. Bible Pro has many features, such as the ability to export chapters of the Bible as Word documents, PDFs, or HTML, as well as a built-in note-taking utility. It has the option to e-mail parts of the Bible, but when we tried this, we were prompted to open our e-mail program, which is problematic if the user uses Web-based e-mail. The program has an option that allows the user to listen to passages from the Bible. When we clicked on this option, the program directed us to a Web site, where the user can choose to listen to passages in either Flash or Real Audio format.

The program installs and uninstalls easily, and does not ask the user to provide any personal information. It has a drop-down Help menu. From there, the user can find help on the program's Web site, or watch Help videos, or capture a screenshot to send to the program's creators for help with specific issues. Bible Pro is free, but it offers expanded features such as Bible maps and book libraries for a fee. We think this is a comprehensive and robust program that users will enjoy.

Publisher's Description

From BibleOcean:

Bible Pro includes million verse links, 250,000 commentaries, 43 bible versions, more than 100 maps, and an interface with free updates for life. Bible Pro uses the same buttons, tools, look, and feel of Microsoft Word and Outlook to make it as easy as possible to learn how to use. The search finds any verse intelligently. Results are linked to commentaries, references, and translations. View a map of the places mentioned and designs of ancient buildings. As you search, read and browse references and commentaries that are displayed below the verse window for instant access. Words with ancient roots are linked to all the translations.

"A good basic English Bible program."

    January 12, 2012  |   By PastorRoe

    Version: Bible Pro 14.3

    Pros

It works well and seems to be very stable. Extra apps are inexpensive.

    Cons

It doesn't offer a whole lot beyond the basic King James Bible text. In order to get more apps, which are readily available in the public domain, you have to purchase their CD for $2.99 plus shipping or download without shipping. Again, these are public domain apps and you aren't getting anything that you can't already get free, other than they link with this program.

    Summary

There are better programs out there with a lot more free apps available, i.e., Online Bible, Theophilos, etc.

    "Very, Very Annoying!"

    October 10, 2011  |   By Matchubee1

    Version: Bible Pro 14.3

    Pros

    It has the Bible.

    Cons

I installed new and when program started I was introduced to a pop-up asking for $2.99 so I could get a CD that would disable pop-ups and ads and it demanded that I register for free by entering my email address. I was annoyed. I entered my email and I clicked "not now" and started the program. There are little messages everywhere that remind you that $2.99 will eliminate all of the messages. I was very annoyed. the font started out small so I clicked "A" to enlarge fonts about six times to get it where I wanted it. Every time I made one click I was redirected to my web browser and 2-3 new web pages (every time)! I was so very, very annoyed at that point so I immediately un-installed the program. Now life is good!

    Summary

Stay Away (If You Don't Want To Be Annoyed)!

    "Annoying and unsure"

    September 30, 2011  |   By Paul_Na

    Version: Bible Pro 14.3

    Pros

This looks a lot like a program I bought at Wal-Mart a few years back. The program is likely good - but

    Cons

I wanted KJV# and you don't get that unless you buy upgrade.
Opens new Google browser every time click on program.
Glad I did not "friend" it on FB (for free download).
Unwanted Google ads - cheap shot to get to buy upgrade.

    Summary

Has anyone downloaded this and had it work okay? Even errors sound like ones I got from that cheap program at WM. Thing was - once it downloaded good - that one was a REALLY excellent program. I'm sorry it does not come with more on the free version. It is really disappointing - especially when the sample on CNET shows KJV# as an accessible version. (KJV# = King James Version with Strong's Numbers built into it. That, is what you really NEED - to dig in and get the meat from the Word.)

Sorry I cannot write a better report on this product. I fear purchasing - that it might not work - and what else it might do. Can't justify purchase now.
