Version: Beyond Compare 2.5.1
"Simple yet powerful, with a clean, clear, and user-friendly interface"
Pros: I tried a few others here at download.com but I have to say Beyond Compare is my favorite. The visual ease and clarity of the comparison results really won me over.
You can easily see comparison results in a clean an uncluttered results screen. Filtering the comparison results by the difference is really easy with pre-configured differences buttons. Reviewing files and folders is easy on the eyes and the color coding and comparison indicators are very clear unlike some other programs.
The advanced options provide a great deal of flexibility, including the ability to exclude and refine results for any need.
Another feature I found very useful is the line comparison box at the bottomof the file comparison results. When two lines are mismatched, selecting one will display them one above the other so it very easy to see the difference without having to scroll horizontally.
Although a little dated looking, Beyond Compare has the best interface of any the file comparison utils I tried. Beyond Compares program window management is great, where some other programs open window after window, creating confusion and clutter. Combine that with the FTP, Explorer, DW, and other integration and BC is truly Beyond Comparison!!!
Cons: As with any of these programs, it does take a little time to learn all the ends and outs, and set up your preferences. Not really a con but until the computer can read my mind, there will always be a learning curve.

Version: Beyond Compare 2.5.1
"Good feature set, very configurable & small footprint"
Pros: I tested numersous products from PH & Cnet before choosing BC2. I found this one to have the most desirable features for my needs and the best fit function-wise for file management/synchronization between multiple machines / drives / FTP sites. The advertised ability to do byte comparisons by file is a plus, though I have not tested this yet. The provision for 'Sessions' is a strong plus. I like the side-by-side display and especially the ability to configure most element colors in the screens. I appreciate the efficient use of screen real estate. The price seems reasonable for a fully-featured product such as this. Registration and payment was a smooth process.
