Publisher's description
From Strategy Lights Series :This naval, turn-based strategy game is an extension of the classic Battleship game, in which ships, planes, and submarines can move. The game covers all major battles in the Pacific theater during WWII and has missions and Free Hunt and Death Match scenarios from Pearl Harbor, the Coral Sea, and Midway to the Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and Leyte battles. The user-friendly game engine allows more than 40 unit types, including carriers, battleships, cruisers, destroyers, torpedo boats, fighters, bombers, submarines, and port artillery, with the production of new units during the game. The game objectives are various: you can conquer major enemy ports, destroy enemy ships, defend ports, and secure a transport convoy to the friendly port. The Battlefield map can be enlarged up to 96x96. All units and officer ranks are historic.
Version 1.4 adds a new scenario, Free Hunt Pacific 1941-1945.

Version: BattleFleet Pacific War 1.4
Pros: The interface is fairly easy to get the hang of. The game has considerably more depth than Batleship, to which is it compared in the tutorial. I especially like the variety of scenarios available to try in the demo version. The first scenario that I played in the demo version was as the Japanese fleet attacking Pearl Harbor. The game has a good amount of variety in what scenarios and maps you get to play with in the demo version. I liked the ease with which you could move your ships, either individually or in groups, and I like the easy attack system that the game uses for resolving battles. My gut feeling is that it is a decent war game, if you like naval warfare type of games. I enjoyed playing the demo right from the start. Having those ultiple Japanese carriers to play with in my first game was a big plus, for building enthusiasm. I got my ass kicked in that first game, but I had fun while doing so. It made me want to replay the scenario, and to continue playing the game. Also, the file size is fairly small, and doesn't take forever to download, if you are on a dial-up Internet connection. All things considered, I definitely recommend the game for downloading and playing by other gamers.
Cons: The worst thing about the game are the graphics, which, while not horrible, leave a lot of room for improvement. This carries beyond just the graphics for the ship units, but throughout the interface. But, the deficient graphics do not inhibit one's ability to enjoy playing this particular game. Is it worth $19.95 for the registered version? That's hard to say, since I have only played the demo a few times, yet. My suggestion is to download it, try it a few times, and then decide how much replay the value has. I would be more inclined to pay $10 to register it, than $20, but the game has more going for it than many war games priced much higher.
