Although it lacks a couple of common features, Backup To DVD/CD Made Simple effectively backs up computer files and programs. After installation, it runs a CD-RW wizard that checks to ensure compatibility with your drive--a nice touch for preventive troubleshooting. The main interface lets you quickly access features and manage previously defined backup plans. Dialog boxes lead you through the necessary steps for creating backup plans and restoring files. Defining a backup plan is simple, and you have plenty of options along the way: you can select backup folders from a tree view or choose documents based on the application that generated them. For example, you could have the program back up all Microsoft Word and Outlook documents.
The program does offer some welcome flexibility, in that you can include any drive as a destination for backup files. You also can interrupt multidisc backups and resume them later. The utility can compress archives--a standard feature in this sort of program--but in lieu of true scheduling, it only lets you insert a delay before beginning a backup. It also lacks encryption and password protection, both of which are common features in backup programs. Backup To DVD/CD Made Simple will work well for people who don't mind running backups manually and who don't need to secure their archives.
Publisher's description
From Willow Creek Software :Backup To DVD/CD backs up exactly what you want, proves it's restorable, and keeps you safe. We save folders and files, do multi-disc backups, split and compress big files, and make incremental backups. But are you sure your backup has the right folders and files on it? Will you be able to restore from it if you ever need to? You don't want surprises. We make sure. For example, our Wizard creates a Backup Plan by searching your entire computer for folders with the kinds of files you want to save. You don't have to remember where you put things. Backup Plans also adapt automatically when you create, delete, move or rename folders and files, so you don't have to remember to fix them afterward.
Backups can be fully automated and scheduled, so they're easy enough to do every day if you want. You can also check old backups to prove they're still restorable. You can even see what's on them with Windows Explorer, and open files on them directly from your favorite programs. Version 5.1.234 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.
