Publisher's description

From Ricardo Batista :

Baby Safe is an interactive program for Mac OS X 10.2 and above (10.3 OK) that provides a safe environment for your baby to play with the computer, while at the same time preventing your baby from causing chaos on your computer.

Once you run Baby Safe II, it displays basic geometric shapes, the alphabet, numbers and pictures as the baby or toddler hits the keyboard or uses the mouse. Sounds are also used to teach the alphabet and the numbers. While Baby Safe II is active your work is safe and your baby can have some fun and learn a little bit.

Baby Safe II uses the whole screen, and it prevents application switching, Expose, the Dock and the menu bar from appearing. The power key is also disabled while Baby Safe II is running so there is no way to get out of the program until you type a special word. Babies (and cats I am told) are therefore free to play around on the computer.

Once a special word such as "byebye", "adios", "quit", "exit", "ciao" or "au revoir" is typed, Baby Safe II stops the animation and returns the menu and Dock to you. The chances of a baby typing that exact sequence of letters is very, very low.

The best thing to do is to setup Baby Safe II on your Dock, so that you can get to it quickly when you see the baby approaching you. The first time you run Baby Safe II openj the preferences (after typing byebye).

In the Preferences you have options to show your own pictures or not, how often, use sounds, musical chords, and more. The option to run at login can be used when your computer is set to login automatically at startup, should the baby press the power key and turn on the computer Baby Safe II will run automatically. Now that Baby Safe II is an application we can expand the program with mini games or other things, so send us your ideas. We are considering an option to monitor the mouse so that if you set it in a specific corner then we run Baby Safe II, as the old screen saver used to do.

Baby Safe II is Shareware, it costs 20 U.S. dollars after a 15 day trial period.

What's new in this version:

  • Avoid a freeze when kids slam too many keys that would get buffered.
  • Free some memory that was not been released when a letter was drawn.
  • Updated the eSellerate Engine, it was very old and caused registration problems.
  • In the demo mode when no activity happens, slow down drawing letters.

Back up and synchronize your important files automatically.
