At first sight, BCWipe looks like nothing special, but this data destroyer proves quite powerful and handy. The interface is flexible, allowing you to obliterate a file or folder anytime through the Explorer right-click menu. For regular cleaning, the Task Manager can be configured to delete specific files at scheduled intervals--for example, your browser cache on system shutdown. You have a choice of three erasing methods: filling with zeros, DoD 5200.28-STD, or Peter Gutmann. You also can add your own method, combining byte patterns with any number of passes to overwrite the data. The program can wipe all free disk space or just that of swap or hibernation files. BCWipe even can encrypt the swap file. The program doesn't consume much in the way of system resources. Powerful yet simple, BCWipe is recommended for both home and business use.Publisher's description
From Jetico :BCWipe ensures that another person will not restore files you have deleted from a disk. It uses military-grade procedures to shred deleted file contents and wipes individual files and folders, free disk space, the swap file (to remove any possible remaining sensitive data), and directory entries. BCWipe includes a Task Manager to set up predefined times when files are to be wiped out automatically.
Version 3.07.2 improves wiping of MFT in NTFS.

Version: BCWipe 3.07.2
Pros: If it does what it says, that would be nice.
Cons: Win XP Home + SP2 + updates. I downloaded the latest version of BCWipe from the jetico.com website on 10/8/06. The version history says that would be 3.08. Installed as admin with virus checker disabled. Rebooted. Disabled virus checker, right clicked C drive, selected wipe (7 cycles): 29 GB used, 75 GB free. It estimate 17 hours. On the first pass it completed the first two items. Then it started the first pass on free space. After about one hour it hung. No other processes were running the entire time, only BCWipe. The BCWipe progress window had disappeared. I had to force a reboot. At startup it said that the *entire* disk (104 GB) was full, with no free space. I had to delete 200 MB of applications to give it enough freespace to run.
Note that the *previous* version update (as stated on the jetico website) was 3.0.7.3 on September 23 of *2005*, more than a year earlier. One must wonder what was going on with this utility in the more than a year to the current (10/5/06) update that I _unfortunately_ got. Perhaps a new developer. In any case, I am using a different computer right now while I continue to try to get the other one working right. It boots, but the display is hosed.
I would steer clear of this utility until there is a new release, and then I would try it on a non-critical computer.

Version: BCWipe 3.07.2
Pros: I have used many programs similar to this one and they all offer promises of gold and give brass, or you use them once and then have to buy it. It works simple! Right click, pick "delete with wiping" and it will pop up with a little rectangle that double checks and when you say yes (or yes to all) it scrubs it away. I have used 9 different file recovery programs just to see if they find anything and none of them have yet. I set my own pattern with 9 passes and chop away!
ALWAYS ALWAYS use 'Safe' mode with no networking. This will save a HUGE amount of time, no crash worries, and no virus scanners and stuff clogging memory.
Cons: It takes Forever to wipe free space. But what do you expect? It works by writing over and then erasing the same bit of memory however many times you chose so if you have an 80G hard drive, it has to be wiped byte by byte for 80 BILLION bytes! It's going to take time! I only wipe free space once a month or so, and I do it by setting up Monday and it will be done by Tuesday night. And of course, the faster your processor, the sooner it will be done. Also, You may occasionaly get warnings that you are running out of memory. Just ignore them. As I said, it works by filling up memory and then erasing it. As far as Windows is concerned, you are out of memory. Just go back to sleep.
AND DON'T FORGET TO USE SAFE MODE!!

Version: BCWipe 3.07.2
"Seems effective, nice integration, but slow"
Pros: This program seems pretty straightforward, the interface may not blow your socks off but it's effective; you can schedule tasks and configure which algorithms you want to use. You don't have to wipe the swap every time either, which can speed up the deletion process. Nice integration with the shell in explorer and the recycle bin. Oh, and like any programs of this ilk it's not for idiots - delete your system files and they will NOT be retrievable. But then, that's not the fault of the software, is it? :-)
Cons: It's slow, if you want to wipe free space on a disk. I know, it's going to be because of what it's doing, but to me it does seem excessive. Haven't tried enough alternative programs to be able to rate it higher than 3.

Pros: It can wipe any file on your pc without leaving any trace.U also can choose your method to erase the file.Plus, with a task manager, u can schedule your task and auto-mate it.U can also delete those file u usually cant delete like swap file and free space file.
Cons: I dislike nothing about the product but too bad it is not a freeware.
