Publisher's description
From Jetico :BCWipe ensures that another person will not restore files you have deleted from a disk. It uses military-grade procedures to shred deleted file contents and wipes individual files and folders, free disk space, the swap file (to remove any possible remaining sensitive data), and directory entries. BCWipe includes a Task Manager to set up predefined times when files are to be wiped out automatically.
In version 3.07, BCWipePD utility for wiping a whole hard drives on a physical level is enhanced. Now BCWipePD defines number of sectors hidden by Device Configuration Overlay (DCO) functionality.

Version: BCWipe 3.07
Pros: The implementation is very nice. I like how BCWipe integrates into the right-click context menu for both Windows Explorer *and* the recycle bin. It's a lot simpler than having to drag and drop files onto an icon or run a separate application.
Cons: BCWipe tries to wipe the Windows swap file every time I wipe a single file. This process takes a long time and hogs system resources. It can be canceled, but this is the default setting when you install the program.

"tried it, liked it, bought it"
Pros: works as advertized. my zone alarm pro doest tell me it is trying to connect to the internet, as mentioned elsewhere. Its a good idea to defrag before wiping free space as it sweeps bits laying around. The info with it hints of this. I really like zapping things I want to get rid of instead of windozzing them. great little ap.
Cons: eastern european english (minor)

"Use Caution when doing a free space wipe on your system drive"
Cons: After initiating a free space wipe on my Win2k system drive I got multiple prompts for my Service Pack 4 CD stating that critical Windows system files had been changed. My Kerio firewall went nuts with all the external calls to the Internet during the wipe, and during reboots. I lost a lot of Windows functionality after the wipe. For example No text or graphics in any System Windows like Explorer, IE and Search Windows. Fortunately I had a copy of SP4 and ran it before rebooting and I was back to normal. If you don't have SP4 on Win 2k handy I wouldn't recommend wiping free space on your system drive. My biggest question is why does this application need to call out to the Internet to function? If you deny access via your firewall it will not execute.
