Version: Axosoft OnTime 2006 Windows Edition 6
"Great for Software Development Project Tracking"
Pros: This program is full of useful and well-implemented features and is pretty easy to learn and use. Not only is it a fine way to keep yourself on point during software development/enhancement, but it can be used for tracking some other projects as well. Even if you work solo (as I do) you'll appreciate the ability to keep detailed information about your development projects in a powerful and easily accessible database. In fact, if you are a solo act, then the amazing thing is that all this power is yours for FREE. It's hard to find really good, powerful software free these days, but this is certainly a welcome exception. It could hardly be more worth at least a try if you do any kind of work requiring project management, defect tracking and the like.
Cons: Well, the program requires a SQL-based database to be installed on your computer, although there isn't really much you'll likely need to do with SQL itself. Still, it would be nice to have the option to use, say, an Access database instead.
Also, support is very iffy. I had a problem where suddenly the program would not connect to the database. I sent an email to support, got one response, and was unable to get a peep out of the company after that first response, which failed to adequately address my issue anyway. Perhaps they don't like supporting the free version, I don't know, but their web site doesn't indicate this. Therefore, if you are thinking of trying it, unless you are seriously going to consider buying it, if you have a problem, you might as well remove it and go on trying other software for this type of application.
