Pros
Free. The automatic updates happen frequently. Performs a basic virus check in a reasonable amount of time.
Cons
Anything beyond a basic check takes forever. I've never been able to make an entire system check happen.
Summary
There are probably better free anti-virus products out there.

"Doesn't play well with others"

Found a trojan Sophos didn't pick up
Cons
Took over 24hrs for a full scan and didn't even finish. Also decided after that full scan that Outlook couldn't open anymore and Sente 6 can't preview pdfs (academic referencing suite). Just uninstalled and am now going back to AVG and hopefully it hasn't messed up my laptop too much.
Summary
I did recommend this to a few people and have very quickly retracted that recommendation. Is there any chance of a Mac based anti-virus which is anywhere near the functionality of a windows based one? I used AVG windows and just used the screensaver-scan, and that function is just one that I miss.

SLOWS DOWN YOUR SYSTEM A LOT. please listen to this point, i ignored the bad reviews thinking il take a risk 'it won't happen to me-there's more good reviews than bad reviews-'**** it' type attitude'
Even now i have uninstalled the programme completely, my computer and browser (especially) speeds are about 1/3 less fast. google instant search hasn't worked properly since installing this software. keyboard typing is recognised by the computer a lot slower in the search boxes in browsers. opening applications takes about 1/3 longer than before.
My only evidence to give to you, is that NONE of this showed any sign of slowing until i installed THIS software. and the changes happened after about 1 day (after running a complete system scan)Summary
Please, if you are like how i was thinking 'i probably should get some antivirus software, just in case...' then really consider researching the programme you're going to download a lot better than i did (one night, looking thru reviews on this site Cnet mainly) and consider buying a recognised brand from a shop who would help you out if things went wrong.
It really isn't worth downloading if nothing is the matter just yet (from my personal experience)
I have up-to-date Mac with Snow Leapord (bought this Mac 1 year ago and always do updates as soon as they come out. already have AVG Link Scanner - which btw has worked fine for me-i just thought i needed a more complete package)
If anyone can help my situation of Mac being slowed (to about 2/3 speed as before installing this) please post below and put dan_collins_ so i know its to me, if you'd be so kind :)

Summary
This is my second favorite free antivirus for Mac......What I like is that it only operates when you do a virus scan...It runs in the background automatically for updates. Have option of quick, full or custom scan....If you want constant monitoring and a little more obtrusive antivirus for Mac then I would recommend Avast......They are both Great Free Antivirus software for Mac users..

"Good free Mac antivirus with no advertisements"

Pros
Scans and updates automatically and it does not take up a lot of space on my Mac. It has the option of a quick scan or a full system scan, which is good because the full system scan takes longer. You can also schedule scans to occur automatically and choose if the auto scans will be full or quick. Also has a custom scan option. Also, there are no advertisements which is pretty cool for a free antivirus.
Cons
It hasn't found anything bad yet. But that might just mean that my Mac is clean. The Windows version has options to upgrade to paid antivirus options, but Mac does not. Upgrade options would be nice to have for Mac.

Doesn't take much ram when running in the background.Ive noticed no slow down on my system with normal usage.
Cons
Takes good bit of ram on a full scan around 2.50 gbs according to activity monitor.A lot better than avast which took all 12 gigs on same full system scan
Summary
Viruses/Malware on a mac are hard to come by so of course the scan came up with nothing.I will update if i do get infected and avira misses it.
