Has a good Firewall Monitor, Allows Connection Tracing.
Cons
Never Caught an infection on my windows seven machine. They were found by Malware Bytes instead. Allows UN wanted connections to Servers that Watch what you are doing in Washington D.C. and unwarranted Connections to Google Servers with no Google software or Updaters installed. Now comes with a Shopper Tracking Spyware Watching and collecting your online activity offering unwanted POP UPS to buy what your buying from say Walmart site from a different Suggested unknown web site.
Summary
I paid for a year in 2013 and the further up dates got worse and worse. Allowed me to be spied on by govt fusion centers.Regularly Nagged me for more money for unneeded Grime Fighter.Allowed unwanted connections. Allowed repeated infections without indication of same. Caused me to wipe hard drive and reinstall windows several times for a clean system. When I uninstalled product it completely broke the native Windows Firewall preventing it's use. Something is going wrong with Avast, STAY AWAY.

Now that I have re-new'ed my contract for another year, less than an hour ago, I feel like my computer has just slowed down (every) process, and I mean every process, from initializing on start-up, to... and including every single key stroke, function, online navigation, download, upload, email function, video viewing (regardless of media player), to powering down my complete system...

In summary; I have been a subscriber of the (free)Avast Internet Security product since my Computer Technician recommended I install it in 2008, and may I add, a very happy subscriber. Last year Avast gave me an ultimatum to either buy the new 2013 Version, or the Free Version would become deactivated and no longer available. As a pleased customer (free-loader) for a number of years, my morals were tested here, and I anti'ed up. Once again, the 2013(FEE) product was every-bit as transparent as the (FREE)product and I slept better too...
Update 03.26.14 Well, I contacted Avast and asked why my system was so slow as of the addition of Avast 2014 Internet Security download. They did a remote access and highly suggested I uninstall, "Super-Anti-Spyware" and "Malware-Bytes" as they said they were conflicting with the Avast suite.
Until an hour ago, when I renewed my 2013 Version to 2014 Avast Internet Security License Agreement.
I must add, that I read the above review by (m0eb1us)prior to renewing my subscription with Avast today. And informed Avast Customer Service on the telephone of (exactly) what the review stated, and made them promise me, that if the same symptoms occurred on my system, that a "FULL REFUND" would be expected, because this above grade of functionality was completely un-acceptable. It took several attempts before the agent would repeat my words, but he did! I gave him my money, and here I am writing this much less than respectable review.
At this point I am in a salvage mode, and not ready to give up the ship. Nor am I prepared to pay one more cent to Avast, to rectify what was a non existent issue before upgrading from 2013 to the 2014 product version release.
If Avast has adopted the same policy that so many (scam vendors) are offering to sell another $175.00-$375.00 service agreement like (you know who) then they have just lost my business as a 6 year cultivated client, in 60 seconds.
This review will be continued, you can guarantee that fact, sooner. rather than, later. It is 11:30PST and I am going to bed. Tomorrow is another day to do battle in the trenches of often slippery world of Internet Security.
I honestly hope this story has a happy ending!

So, I un-installed both of them, and there is definitely a noticeable difference in the speed of my system now, but what about the protection from spyware and/or adware...
Still confused at this point. Any suggestions would be appreciated. -

Used to be a nice, unobtrusive, light-weight anti-virus software.
Cons
Since the last update, any streamed Shockwave content (meaning - among others - every single video on Youtube!) will crash after a few seconds as long as I have Avast! enabled. Also, all of my downloads will stall at 99% and then become corrupted - even the ones from trusted sources (Cnet and such). Turning Avast! off will fix these issues, while leaving it on will make it completely impossible for me to use any of my browsers (tried it with Firefox, Chrome, and Opera too). No special settings help (I've tried everything!), only completely disabling web protection. I had to uninstall Avast! to be able to use the internet as intended.
Summary
Good job with the latest update, turned my browsers completely unstable.

I've purchased Avast for several years now and been happy. And overall, I still like Avast. With Avast 2014.9.01213 the SafeZone has greatly improved. They've also improved the ease of shopping for additional Avast software and service.
Cons
Continuous attempts to sell me more product or services. Pop-up after pop-up throughout the day warning my computer is at risk if I did not buy the new Avast "xyz" product. Or Avast had counted 18plus registry errors on my pc, so I needed to buy the new Avast "xyz" software. And of course the firewall issue, the firewall would stop working, Avast would give the alert but when I tried to turn it on I could not. Finally Avast did help me fix the firewall with out forcing to purchase a Tech Support Package.
While I can say no to buying anything and I had to turn off avast pop-up noticed. My BIGGEST CON, Avast uses an excess of 8-17 percent of my CPU when I'm online. Sadly using 14-17+ while watching Netflix or streaming video. Selecting the game play option in setting does not help.Summary
I don't think Avast is what it was in the past. The new dashboard is nice, clean and simple to read. While easy to read it offers little information. The important tools are on a small side menu bar. I would like to be able to see what avast is doing when I open the icon. The dashboard tells me "everything's ok" but does not tell me if it's running a scan or other services. And the info can not be found. I would like them to improve in some of the simple areas of user friendliness
I will consider Avast again but will look for a better solution in the future. -
"BEWARE OF NEW SALES TACTICS!!!"

Have used for 6 + years, like the "Safe Zone Browser" feature, like the "Secure Line" feature, and overall reliability for PC protection, BUT.... The newest update will disable the Avast Firewall and there is no way to manually turn it back on. I called the Avast 24/7 telephone support and the guy said he would need to connect remotely to my PC to solve the issue so I agreed. Once he gained access, he immediately went to my PC info to find out all the stats of what kind of laptop that I had and complemented me on what a "Great top of the line laptop" that I had. Then he went directly into my error reporting and saw many red "X"s (which were all FireFox crashes) and said that my laptop was causing the Avast Firewall to not operate. He then went into my TEMP folder and saw the all the files from my browsing history, cookies, etc and AGAIN said that my laptop was "too cluttered with junk and files for the Avast Firewall to operate. I said that I could clean it with CCleaner.. keep reading

and defrag it myself and had been for years but he then started trying to sell me some "Professional service from Avast" from a "Certified Windows Technician" who would fix my laptop so the Avast Firewall could run properly. I asked if there was a charge since I had the PAID VERSION of Avast Internet Security and was still within my one year purchase and he said it would be an extra $100 (one hundred) charge. I asked why would TEMP files and cookies cause Avast to not work and he could not give me an answer and kept trying to push the service on me. I Kept asking him to help me fix the Avast firewall and he said he couldn't and that I shouldn't try to clean up my PC since I was not a "certified Microsoft technician" and kept trying to push the service on me. I hung up and disconnected the remote help then used Windows System Restore to send my PC back to before the Avast update. Everything worked fine after that and so did the Avast program and firewall.
Summary
The newest update is a SCAM hijack and will cause the Avast Firewall to stop working thus causing you to call the Avast 24/7 (foreign country) help line and that is where they try to push the extra fixit service on you and charge the $100. If this is not fixed in the latest update then I will uninstall my Avast and go back to Norton or some other program. I PAID for Avast Internet Security and should NOT have to be SPAMMED nor tricked into buying some "extra paid service" for my Avast program to run properly and I will NOT fall for this scheme! If you have not purchased the Avast Internet Security or any similar Avast program... DON"T, not at least until AFTER you read somewhere that this scam is corrected and stopped. This is a blatant hijacking of my laptop for the sole purpose of selling me some extra service that was NOT required, and all it would need would have the hijack update removed from my PC. I am personally asking Seth Rosenblatt of CNET / Download.com to personally check into this and report because I have listened to Seth's videos for a long time and he is very honest and trustworthy in evaluating programs. I've paid to use avast for over 5 years. The software is priced lower than the competition.
Cons
Avast is SPAM WARE. Now that they have updated the program, they pop-up advertisements all day long trying to sell additional software and there is no way to kill the ads. This causes my computer to crash several times a day while trying to accomplish the simplest task; I use my computer for work and this is extremely annoying.
