Starting from the Internet Explorer engine, Avant Browser adds useful capabilities, such as grouped favorites, an RSS reader, and tabbed browsing. The first thing we noticed upon launch was the aesthetically pleasing skin that came as the default with Avant Browser, but you can choose from among many preloaded skins in the Tools menu. The tabbed-browsing feature lets you quickly switch among Web sites, rather than having to shuffle through several browser instances in the Windows taskbar. If you visit several Favorites often, you can save them as a group and open the whole group with one click. When you shut down the program, Avant Browser remembers which windows were open and launches them the next time it starts up. You also can automatically refresh all windows, or only the current one, at regular intervals. A simple pop-up blocker works in most cases, but it was powerless against some floating banners and other, more obscure pop-up methods. Overall, we found Avant Browser a great alternative to Internet Explorer, with useful features that make browsing even more efficient. Watch the CNET video review of Avant Browser:
Publisher's description
From Avant Force :Avant Browser allows users to browse multiple Web sites simultaneously and to block all unwanted pop-up pages and Flash ads automatically. The integrated cleaner helps users clear all traces and maintain privacy. The built-in Yahoo and Google search engines enable users to search for Web pages, images, groups, directories, lyrics, software, and news on the Internet. Avant Browser provides options for blocking the download of Flash media, pictures, video, sounds, and ActiveX components, so users can efficiently use their bandwidth and speed up page loading. All opened pages can be stopped, refreshed, closed, or arranged with one click. It also comes with built-in RSS reader. Its similar Web sites bar displays Web sites, which are related to the opened Web pages.

Version: Avant Browser 11.5 build 16
"Average...nice features, though."
Pros: Well, I was looking through CNET, thinking about what browser I would use if Firefox goes kaput like it does randomly sometimes on my computer (it's like a blasted soap opera) and I found Avant, a popular new, very small browser. So of course I give it a run right in the middle of some video encoding and it predictably runs like butt, proving that it's processor hungry.
This guess was further made when I wen through the feature set...very nice...online bookmarks and passwords? Cool, if any libraries ran anything other than IE6...built into the download was a whole slew of skins that look almost identical color wise, and my eyes began to bleed...the browser had a nice feel to it, and it was definitely well made...
Yeah, it's basically IE7 without all the suck. Plus a few more items, like a little handy tray icon and loads of other little things.
Cons: I came in here with pretty high expectations of people "bringing their laptop from the depths of long loads." Well, I still waited about as long as I did for a Firefox load-er-up, especially on Flash-heavy sites. In fact, CNET Music downloads crashed the browser twice (though that's in part to my slow processor, bringing to back to that).
It's also blindingly bright and white, and it would have been nice to have a few darker skins for people who use such on Firefox or Opera. Some who are really bent on Firefox may miss some of their favorite extensions and features, as well (the download statusbar void hurts the most).
Regardless, it's a worthy download, and at 1 meg, it's great for the dial-up users who want to upgrade their PC fast and easy. I wouldn't pick it over Firefox, but it's so small and handy I might as well just keep it around for a rainy day.

Version: Avant Browser 11.5 build 16
Pros: The skin is pretty nice. It loads pages fast but...
Cons: Firefox is much much better. For one thing, the name sounds better. =]. And firefox is much easier to use. And, when you close Avant, it still stays open in your task bar.
Happy surfing.

Version: Avant Browser 11.5 build 16
Pros: Very very fast, stable, pleasant interface. Mature, bug-free, reassuringly solid to use. Lots of handy features, some of which, like the floating toolbar that appears when text is selected, are quite addictive. Works with many IE add-ons, including IESpell. Uses MS Trident rendering engine, so most pages display correctly. Highly customisable, more secure than IE.
Cons: A few IE add-ons, including SiteAdvisor, don't work in Avant. Not as versatile as Firefox, despite many useful built-in features. Use of Trident engine means that the odd few sites that don't display correctly in IE won't in Avant either. Some features, like the search facility, require some previous computer know-how to configure, if you want to use anything but the default settings.

Version: Avant Browser 11.5 build 16
Pros: It's pretty nice, it's fast ......
Cons: Is the security good? Does it block pop-ups mostly? Now to the one thing I hate, when I click on a link on my desktop Avant Browser takes the link! Now when I got WinPatrol to stop that the links has just becomed "Print this!" Instead, ***** Avant!
