Don't get bogged down in digital grunt work. Automate can schedule and script all kinds of tedious chores, including backups, downloads, e-mailings, Telnet and FTP sessions, alarms, notifications, and program launches.

You select certain tasks, define their parameters, and schedule the times for them to start. You can log computer activities and chain together complex tasks with conditions and variables--for instance, deleting all temporary files when a certain directory fills up to 1GB. The interface isn't very intuitive, but the learning curve is acceptable. The Java-based software core performs a bit slowly and consumes more than its share of system resources--which is too bad, since the scheduler engine needs to run constantly.

If you're just looking for alarms and automated system shutdowns, Automate is probably more software than you need. However, it's a solid choice for power users who have better things to do than babysit their computers.

Automation software that can automate a variety of tasks, including FTP transfers, FTP monitoring, Web downloads, Web site monitoring, e-mail checking and sending, Telnet, ping, database SQL, advanced zip, unzip, copy, synchronize folders, and directory, and file monitoring. In addition, the chaining feature can run tasks in sequence or conditionally depending on exit codes. Additional features include email notifications on task failure, FTP browsing, ZIP file viewer, extensive logging, remote task control. It supports dynamic variables to achieve advanced automation tasks. E-mail notification profiles based on exit code can be set for tasks. Schedules can be synchronized to allow or prevent overlapping schedules. Dynamic variables allow for advanced automation solutions. Number of command line utilities are available to remotely and programmatically control tasks and the scheduler.

Version 8.09 adds schedule module--option to schedule every odd, even or custom week.
