"One of the Best Screen Recorder I have ever used."

Pros
Very Easy to use. Basically, you just choose a way to record (a rectangular area, window, etc.), and then, hit your hotkey on the keyboard to record.
The default quality is already pretty good. I use the videos for my work directly.
I used it on XP and Windows 7. Also checked with my latest Windows 8, and it works!Cons
Only the Pro version comes with Sound recordig. On one PC, I can record both my mic and the youtube video sound. But on another old PC, I can only record from my mic. I guess it's my old sound card issue, though.
Summary
This is an amazingly well designed recording piece. It's by far the most user friendly amongst the recorder's I've used. I've used about 2 years now, and I'm very happy with the program!

"Does not permit F9 key use in other software"

Installed easily, seems to work okay.
Cons
Installed and ran program, seems to function as reviewed. I did not add it to autostart and exited program. Later, I tried to use F9 key to insert a breakpoint in an Excel macro, but it started recording and flashing the screen, I pressed ALT F10 to cancel. Rebooted and same result. Uninstalled program, REBOOTED AGAIN, problem solved.
Summary
If you have any other software that uses the F9 key, do not install this program.

"Simplest Screen Recorder I've ever used"

Pros
EASY TO USE. Simple interface in either Free or Pro version allows you to record by means of a hot-key, if you configure your options in advance. So you are never stuck with the recording program, interfering with what you capture in your video.
Handles sounds recording too, whether (and both) you use your webcam microphone or 'What you hear' -- so you can record from both channels at once.Cons
1. No option to compress audio, even when you select Xvid codec with options TO compress the Audio (i.e., to 192 kpbs). So you always have to convert the file.
2. Keyboard conflicts with some software make ASR crash unexpectedly. Beware of the Mousehooks. ASR doesn't tell you what mousehooks it uses.
3. Unfortunately, the ASR people don't respond to emails reporting these problems.
4. Product hasn't been updated.
5. If you choose to pick a certain area (other than full screen) for your recording, you get this very annoying GRID in red as soon as you hit your hotkey to record.
6. Their video editor is useless.
7. Their audio converter can only work with WAV files, due to #4.
8. No useful help, but what software actually provides competent help, these days?Summary
Since 2008, I've made over 300 (500?) Youtube HD instructional videos using this software. Am still using it.
UPDATE/CORRECTIONS, now that I can see my first review:
The Pro version allows you to record sound, and to record a specific area of the screen. The latter is buggy, so I never use it. Generally, operation is swift, easy. You just click on the icon, click on Stand By button, and it minimizes to the system tray. That's why it's important to set your recording options (i.e., what codec to use) -- in advance. You don't have many options.
When you hit the hotkey to record, a little blue ball appears on the icon in the system tray, so you can see as you record, that it's on. Which matters, because certain programs use mousehooks which conflict with ASR, so the latter suddenly crashes without notice; you can't fix the video, because the leftover temp file of the video, never includes sound. But it will play.
It's due to this unknown mousehook problem that I regretfully seek a replacement. I've emailed ASR in the past about problems and no one ever answered, so will not email them again, now.

Cons
CNET's review must be of the Pro version ($50 to purchase). The free version only captures VGA resolution at a measly 8fps, with limited colors and no sound. Required a reboot upon uninsatlling.
Summary
A worthless teaser program. The pay version's "extra" features are very basic, not worth the price they are asking.
