Publisher's description of AutoIt 3.1
From AutoItScript.com:Looking for a free, small, and simple scripting and automation language that can even be compiled into standalone executable files? AutoIt can simulate mouse movements and send keystrokes as well as manipulating windows and processes. Interact with edit boxes, buttons, lists, and other window controls making automation more reliable than ever before! AutoIt also makes a great general purpose scripting language that has an easy to learn BASIC-like syntax featuring loops, expressions, file and registry functions. AutoIt excels at home automation but is equally powerful when used in business, especially in large PC rollouts where 1000s of machines must be configured automatically and reliably. If that wasn't enough, AutoIt has a proven history, is constantly improved and has a large and active community-based support forum.
Version 3.1 calls DLLs/APIs directly and provide a scriptable RunAs function.

Version: AutoIt 3.1
Pros: Serves for great fun when automating windows or building applications. New beta builds are released on a regular basis, each one better than the last.
Cons: As new functions are developed, you need to check for updates to the documentation.

Version: AutoIt 3.1
"Fantastic scripting tool and development environment"
Pros: Full featured utility scripting language. Now has GUI environment so you can build small apps that help you get your job done easier. Needs no installation, compiles to exe, Uses SciTE editor although not required.
Cons: No support for manipulating binary files by design. On rare occasion I need this and wish it were part of the language.

Version: AutoIt 3.1
Pros: Gives me power over my network beyond anything I could have achieved at 100 VBA/Scripting classes.
AutoIT allows me to automate all of my former drudge work: install applications on 500 PC's; perform routine cleanup on 500 PC's; update passwords; easily determine PC properties, such as IP addresses, MACIDS, Dell System Tags, Network names; change permissions on files, folders, machines...
What's amazing about AutoIT, however, is that I was able to do all of the above without learning anything about VBA, WSH, Javascript, etc. The AutoIT support forum is astounding: if the problem has not already been solved, you have an answer within a day (minutes in some cases) to whatever you need. Even if you are a nubee who is trying his hardest to learn.
This is better than macros, better than scripts, better than brute force by a long shot!
Cons: Doesn't wash my car...
