This freeware program lets power users perform complex operations by pressing a few keys. A quick glance shows that the AutoHotkey script language offers a wide range of opportunities.
First, it can run programs, manipulate program windows, and send keystrokes or mouse clicks. Multimedia or Internet keyboards are supported, and you can plug in nonstandard devices. It can also handle files and folders. For instance, it can check whether there is enough free disk space, then delete all temporary files if there isn't. Most remarkably, you can pack your scripts into EXE files that will run on any PC, even without AutoHotkey installed.
AutoHotKey hogs a grand total of only 1MB of memory when running in the background. However, the user interface is minimal, so you will have to read the manual carefully and write scripts yourself. The program works great as a script-running engine, but we would like to see more tools in the interface, such as a script library and an integrated scripting environment. AutoHotkey should appeal to advanced users with some command of scripting and a dislike for removing their fingers from the keyboard.
Publisher's description
From AutoHotkey :This open-source utility can automate almost anything by sending keystrokes and mouse clicks. You can write macros by hand or use the macro recorder. You can also create hotkeys for keyboard, mouse, joystick, and handheld remote controls. Virtually any key, button, or combination can become a hotkey. Similarly, you can define abbreviations that expand as you type them. For example, typing "btw" can automatically produce "by the way". Finally, you can create custom data entry forms, user interfaces, and menu bars. Other features: remap keys; change soundcard settings (like volume or mute); use a joystick or keyboard as a mouse; make any window transparent, always-on-top, or alter its shape; manipulate the clipboard; customize the tray menu's icon and menu items; run existing AutoIt v2 scripts; and convert any script into an EXE file that can be run on any PC.

Version: AutoHotkey 1.0.47.04
Pros: I use my PC alot, not just for business needs but also for entertainment, sometimes playing games but mostly chat. This program has saved me alot of trouble typing. I can basically do any actions through my keyboard. Works on devices such as joysticks or remote controls. You can make marcos for doing your everyday tasks that seemed to take minutes of digging. A great app for anyone seeking a nice marco/hotkey program.
Cons: As usual for programs that needs some knowledge of coding, you need to be good at this and know what you are doing. Other than that, i have no problems with it.

Version: AutoHotkey 1.0.47.04
"powerful but with a steep learning curve"
Pros: saves time and effort for repetitive tasks
Cons: the help files (which contain all the info for creating the autokey scripts) are not laid out clearly, so sometimes a lot of searching is required in order to get the information needed

Version: AutoHotkey 1.0.47.04
"Fantastic gadget, but requires basic programming experience"
Pros: Fantastic program that can do loads of time saving tasks for you, from expanding textual abbreviations, tp opening webpages or windows, either as executable files or triggered by a Hotkey.
Cons: does assume you have basic confidence in writing command scripts. Not for PC novices or technophobes. A drag, drop & click script editor would make this a truly great program accessable to novices

Version: AutoHotkey 1.0.47.04
Pros: This software allows you to write small, custom GUI applications, as well as keyboard shortcuts to enter text or launch applications. I have written a number of routines using AutoHotKey and use them daily. It is an awesome little application!
Cons: There is a learning curve to understand the program syntax. The program is intolerant of errors and has poor debugging capabilities. If you are willing to spend a little time, though, it is truly amazing what can be accomplished!
