From Soporific software :Completely patches & upgrades a Windows 98 Second Edition machine. Features include: one-click & one-button automatic patching, user selectable modules with further options available, batch file installation system checks your computer system before installing updates (default setting), force re-installation of updates (non-default setting), viewable report function searches for missing and installed updates, and viewable basic and verbose logs for all processes.
The program also includes a SYSTEM.INI tweaker and a tool to fix problems accessing Windows Update. The total number of updates, hotfixes & component upgrades included in this pack is 178 and includes: Internet Explorer 6 sp1, MS Data Access Components 2.8 sp1, Windows Media Player 9, DirectX 9.0c (Dec 2006), Windows Installer v2, and Native USB 3.1. Some modules available include: Critical Security Hotfixes, Recommended Tweaks, Visual Basic Runtimes, Recommended System Updates, and Laptop Hotfixes.
What's new in this version:
Version 1.95 (PR2) many updates to code that checks if an update needs to be installed, improved report functions, a few new titles.

Version: Auto-Patcher For Windows 98se 1.95 (PR2)
"FAR too large to download easily"
Pros: Probably some good utilities and upgrades included.
Cons: Author should break this monster down into at least 4 or 5 components and allow users to pick and choose their downloads based on desire for features and upgrades. I use Win98 but have no desire for some features included in this program.

"It works. Wish I had this a few years ago."
Pros: Nice job of automating all the updates. Similar to Microsoft's Security Upgrade CD of a few years ago (but barebones graphics).
It will save a lot of time for anyone who ever re-installs Win 98SE.
Cons: I had to locate 2 dll files (MSNET32.DLL was one) & telnet.exe for it (maybe because once upon a time re-installed Windows into c:\Window2).
