This Outlook Express backup utility performs fairly well, but it's missing some standard features found in similar applications.

As its title suggests, Auto Outlook Express Backup backs up and restores your Outlook Express messages, address book, account, signatures, blocked senders, rules, stationery, and settings. It even handles Internet Explorer bookmarks. Its clear-cut interface can schedule backup jobs and facilitate quick backup and restoration of files. You can even password-protect and encrypt backup files using AES (Advanced Encryption Standard), though additional encryption algorithms and compression tools would have set this application apart from the rest.

It did a good job of backing up and restoring data, but we weren't able to restore the account or the address book during testing. You can keep a number of backup files, but you'll only be able to run backup jobs on a daily basis. (Note: Outlook Express has to be closed during the process.)

Average users of Outlook Express may benefit from what this application has to offer, but power users will probably want a backup tool with more features.
