Publisher's description of Authentic-ID Toolbar

The Authentic-ID Toolbar protects you from phishing and fraud by warning you when a Web site matches a list of known phishing sites, has suspicious characteristics, or its authenticity cannot be verified. Phishing attacks use spoofed e-mails and fraudulent Web site designed to fool you into divulging personal financial data such as credit card numbers, account passwords, and social security numbers. The Authentic-ID Toolbar easily plugs into your Internet Explorer browser. It warns you when you visit a known or suspicious Web address no matter how you access it e-mail, Web browser, chat, or document link. Authentic-ID uses a combination of techniques to check each Web address you visit: signature database checks, behavioral analysis, and community feedback. You can save your own list of sites too. Authentic-IDs databases are updated in real time.

Protect yourself from phishing with this effective toolbar, which gives you a plethora of information but stops short of actually blocking offending sites.

Based on its own monitoring system and user feedback, Authentic-ID Toolbar offers a warning for any site it deems a phishing threat. It attaches itself to your IE window and sports a very simple interface that includes a search field, a message button for updates, and a score indicator button. Using three colors--red, yellow, and green--a tiny icon on the indicator button lets you know whether you can trust a site. More information about a particular Web site's safety and popularity scores, country of origin, and if there is any spam threat or adult content is a click away. You can even check links within a site by hovering your mouse over the link until a small dialog box appears. The Settings menu will let you adjust the security level of the toolbar and you can report a site as being either safe or unsafe.

Unfortunately, Authentic-ID Toolbar doesn't block sites found to be phishing. Even so, users of all levels will appreciate the simplicity of this add-on for phishing protection.

  "Works great to safeguard your computer"

  Pros: The Authentic-ID toolbar has caught a number of phishing sites for me. If the site has not been crawled through, they'll ask if you think its safe. It also has a legal services link to send you to a site that gives you a free living will!

  Cons: Nothing so far, everything is working great.
