Auslogics Disk Defrag

CNET Editors' review

by: Seth Rosenblatt on November 07, 2008

Join your hard drive fragments together into a tight bunch with this freeware. Auslogics Disk Defrag's interface couldn't be any cleaner or easier to use.

Choose a hard drive from an easy-to-read pull-down menu, and Disk Defrag instantly displays the drive's size, and used and free space. The program even displays a pie graph for visual learners. One click starts the defragmentation process. The program's defrag process screen displays another handy visual. A sector map makes it easy to see how much of the drive is fragmented, allocated, or free. As the program churns away, the defragged sectors are displayed in blue.

We found the program fast, even on older XP systems. A handy HTML report is prepared after each defrag session. A summary displays the total files and folders defragged, while the detail section lists the defrag outcome for each file. We only wish a final sector map was included in the report. Novices to system administrators will love this easy-to-use hard drive defrag program.

Publisher's Description

From Auslogics Software:

Disk fragmentation leads to system slowdowns, PC crashes, slow startup and shutdown and sometimes to system failures. Auslogics Disk Defrag is designed for fast optimization of today's modern hard disks. Get the maximum performance out of your expensive hardware investments. And it's absolutely free. Hard disks are by far the slowest component in your computer. CPU and memory work much faster than hard disks because they do not have moving parts. Therefore fragmented disks often become a bottleneck of the system performance. Besides causing slowdowns, fragmentation makes the hard drive disk heads move frequently when reading files which leads to freeze-ups and system crashes. It is important to keep your disks defragmented and optimized as much as possible.

"Quick and easy, not to mention thorough"

    September 12, 2009  |   By zince1

    Version: Auslogics Disk Defrag 2.1.2.45

    Pros

Never had a difficulty after it gets through, like others I won't mention. I recommend this to all my friends and not one has turned it down, after trying.

    Cons

Can't think of a thing it doesn't do, if all you need is a defragger, this is the one

    Summary

Even though I am not affiliated with auslogic, DOWNLOAD THEIR PRODUCTS, YOU GET EXACTLY WHAT THEY OFFER, NOT JUST WITH THIS ONE, BUT ALL I HAVE TRIED SO FAR. Thank you,

    "Very fast & thorough."

    September 11, 2009  |   By metaluna

    Version: Auslogics Disk Defrag 2.1.2.45

    Pros

I've been using Auslogics defrag for several years and run it twice a month. It's finished in about 5 minutes, rearranging over 240,000 files! Drop down lets you defrag any drives you have. Very easy & simple.

    Cons

There's nothing I don't like about this fantastic freebie.

    Summary

When I first began using it, I'd test it against Windows defrag and it would still find files to defrag. The color blocks let you clearly see which files are completed and which aren't. It's 5 times faster too. If you're looking for a fast and efficient defrag, this is the one!

    September 10, 2009  |   By Cberlav

    Version: Auslogics Disk Defrag 2.1.2.45

    Pros

It did the defrag I need and it is reasonably speedy

    Cons

    needed more flexibility

    Summary

I installed it because I couldn't get Smart Defrag to install but once I worked that out I wanted to return to using it so I dumped this one.

    "Better then win Defrag"

    September 8, 2009  |   By Seraph702

    Version: Auslogics Disk Defrag 2.1.2.45

    Pros

gives you the option if you want the program to skip over large fragmented files, lets you custumize your preferences pretty well

    Cons

what is there not to like about this product, its complete u dont need any thing else.

    Summary

way better the windows defrag; if you dont know the prompt commands to do a full defrag then the disk defrag does pretty much nothing, most people probably think they click the button and they are doing there PC good, with auslogics disc defrag you go through the setting change what you want click the button and your done it will even turn your PC off lol.
