Join your hard drive fragments together into a tight bunch with this freeware. Auslogics Disk Defrag's interface couldn't be any cleaner or easier to use.
Choose a hard drive from an easy-to-read pull-down menu, and Disk Defrag instantly displays the drive's size, and used and free space. The program even displays a pie graph for visual learners. One click starts the defragmentation process. The program's defrag process screen displays another handy visual. A sector map makes it easy to see how much of the drive is fragmented, allocated, or free. As the program churns away, the defragged sectors are displayed in blue.
We found the program fast, even on older XP systems. A handy HTML report is prepared after each defrag session. A summary displays the total files and folders defragged, while the detail section lists the defrag outcome for each file. We only wish a final sector map was included in the report. Novices to system administrators will love this easy-to-use hard drive defrag program.

Publisher's description
From Auslogics Software :Disk fragmentation leads to system slowdowns, PC crashes, slow startup and shutdown and sometimes to system failures. Auslogics Disk Defrag is designed for fast optimization of today's modern hard disks. Get the maximum performance out of your expensive hardware investments. And it's absolutely free. Hard disks are by far the slowest component in your computer. CPU and memory work much faster than hard disks because they do not have moving parts. Therefore fragmented disks often become a bottleneck of the system performance. Besides causing slowdowns, fragmentation makes the hard drive disk heads move frequently when reading files which leads to freeze-ups and system crashes. It is important to keep your disks defragmented and optimized as much as possible.
Version 2.0 adds the capability to defragment all drives at once, the capability to analyze any disk, full Unicode encoding support, and defragmentation speed improved by 30%.

Version: Auslogics Disk Defrag 2.0
"Stick with the old version (version 1)"
Pros: They tweaked the gui, it looks slightly different. Lets you defrag multiple drives at once.
Cons: Does not run. Crashes immediately. I click Defrag, it says "Please wait a moment" and then nothing happens. 2 seconds later, the window says (Not Responding) and I have to force it to close. Rebooting or running as admin doesn't solve the problem.
Summary: They need to work on this one a bit, it's not ready for release. I even let it sit for 1/2 hour to see if it eventually responded and it still didn't do anything. Meanwhile the previous/old version (1.6.24.355) works fine on the same system. Wait th... read more >>

Version: Auslogics Disk Defrag 2.0
"This is definitely a program you can live without!"
Pros: Very nice to look at when it works. It performed very quickly on 1 of 5 drives. however it completely failed to work on my remaining 4 drives. a 20% success rate is pretty dismal!
Cons: It completely failed to work on 4 of my 5 drives. When it crashed, I was asked if I wanted to report the trouble to the developers. I click "YES" and it crashed again! Sad little program.
Summary: This is definitely a program you can live without!
I have used a number of different defrag utilities, but it seems I always end up going back to the slow classic Windows Disk Defrag. Once again, I was lured into downloading something new, jus... read more >> -

Version: Auslogics Disk Defrag 2.0
"It has become faster,nicer,better"
Pros: The new design is much easier to understand and the way its so much faster at start-up is always a little plus.
Better explination of the coloured patterns with a little animation when you mouse over it, Great!Cons: I think its a con that so many people use "smart defrag" instead if this.
Auslogics seem extremely more pro imo :)Summary: I used smart defrag before but i really hated the freeze when you started the program.
Auslogics is much more stable and speedy -

Version: Auslogics Disk Defrag 2.0
"The Fastest Defragger I Know"
Pros: I like the fact that this defragger is of top notch speed. I cannot believe that the defrag system comes with windows is so slow, how come can a 3rd party defragger be faster? But I give it a thumbs up for speed!!
Cons: No Cons - I love it!
Summary: I don't like the fact that it tells me at the end of the defrag that my PC is not optimized for optimum performance and I have to go and purchase other software to speed it up, it actually comes with a friendly warning. I suppose nothing in life is ... read more >>
