AudioFinder for Mac

Publisher's Description

From Iced Audio:

If you're a digital musician who's got hordes of sound sample files scattered all over your hard drive, this handy app will help you locate and audition them to find the ones you want to use in a project. It works kind of like an audio file browser, culling through your hard disk to find sound files (AIFF, AIFC, SDII, REX (version 1) SYX, MID, and WAV formats supported), and then allowing you to play each file from within its easy-to-use interface. From there, you can flag all the desired files in the favorites directory and then simply import them from the directory to your audio sequencer of choice. It also has a BPM feature that will either guess the beats-per-minute in a drum loop or song sample for you, or let you tap out the beats of the rhythm on its BPM Tap Pad to manually determine the tempo.

AudioFinder even manages Sysex files.

The Sample Extractor is a unique and powerful feature that will save you many hours of audio editing. While some professional sample CDs come in WAV or AIFF format the bulk are in Audio CD format, with each track containing multiple samples. In order to use the individual samples from Audio CD traditionally one would have to import the track and then open it in an audio editor application and manually find each sample section, cut it out and make a new file. AudioFinder's Sample Extractor automates the sample cutting and editing process so that sounds with multiple samples can be sliced into individual files almost instantly.

Also inclued is a suite of power renaming features that will allow you to batch rename your audio files in ways that will make controlling your samples even easier.

What's new in this version:

  • d meta-refine-searching in the Scanner. Now you can type multiple keywords separated by '//' to search and refine all in step.
  • Hitting return in the Scanner Search field now executes a search instead of playing the sound.
  • Added "Disable Instant Play" under the Options menu.
  • Fixed Command-A Select All.
  • Made the Autopilot short cut Command-Shift-A instead of just Command-A
  • Created new transport control buttons
  • Fixed a bug were alias... See all new features

"Essential if you use audio for your projects"

    June 11, 2011  |   By colinmansfield_dotmac

    Version: AudioFinder 5.3.1

    Pros

Can audition and organize most formats of audio, acts as plugin manager, frequent updates.

    Cons

none (well, it's Mac only, but I don't see that as a con).

    Summary

I've owned this software for years and use it all the time. I have more than 200 GB of samples which would be nearly impossible to use without AudioFinder. The fact that it's updated quickly (based on user bug reports or feature requests) and on a regular basis shows Iced Audio cares about its product and users, nice.

"Invaluable piece of software for audio professionals"

    November 20, 2010  |   By drwebmail

    Version: AudioFinder 5.0.6

    Pros

Extremely deep and feature rich, very stable, immediately responsive developer. Inexpensive for what it does. Free updates for life.

    Cons

None that I can think of....

    Summary

This is the first software that I install on any new machine. Some may argue that there are too many features, but it is really goes as deep as you want to. The more you work with it the more you want those features and more. There really is no equivalent to this software out there on any platform. It's great.

Nothing comes close for auditioning and sorting the thousands of samples we have on our computers these days. Absolutely indispensible, regularly updated, and well worth the shareware fee.

    "Kudos to 3.8.2"

    September 18, 2005  |   By Codee 1

    Version: AudioFinder 3.8.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
AudioFinder 3.8.2 is a must have!
An audio utility for every and any kind of musician.
Ya' really can't afford to miss this gem.
It's simple looking yet it's slick and has a customizable GUI.
Packed with features that could cost you many times the amount!

Seriously I cannot tell it all, but I will try for a few.

AudioFinder 3.8.2 has what I like to call the, "down and dirty" meta editor.
It's a new favorite of mine. It really just gets you right you into a sample, to cut it, loop it, detect and edit hit points, slice em' up and get them outta' there quick.
The built in meta editor is no joke. It's "down and dirty" baby.

With a slew of other features like BPM detection, Midi input triggering, Apple's Audio Unit plugin processing. System plugin management for VST, AU, and MAS. Selectable note tuner utility. Multi format file conversions and export like SND, AAC, AIFF, Wav etc. File Import support includes REX1 and 2 support for the Recycle and Reason heads. Extensive file management and processing capabilities are only part of the AudioFinder experience. You could spend 15 minutes or hours creating well organized, great sounding sample libraries. Eventually thinking, " How did I do all of this stuff before AudioFinder?"

Quick mention that Iced Audio tirelessly and habitually updates this monster regularly with features faster than you can ask why didn't I buy this app a LOOONG time ago. Frequently implementing useful features that user's feedback to them.

Personally I thought it was a remarkable little gem from day one.
Now with 3.8.2, it's simply outstanding!
I can promise you for the price, NOTHING even comes close.

Kudos! Iced Audio by far you have created one of the best audio utilities I have ever owned and seen in a longtime.

When I first tried A.F. (2.x) I thought that $50 was too much for a shareware app - but I paid it because I use this program all the time! The updates keep moving this app in the right direction and each new version provides better stability, faster interface, and more useful features. My personal favorite (and most used) is creating my own soundbanks for use in my projects. I have roughly 250Gb of audio assets on my Mac, and A.F. keeps it all organized and quickly found for me. Thanks and keep up the good work!
