From Audacity Developer Team :Audacity is a free audio editor. You can record sounds, play sounds, import and export WAV, AIFF, and MP3 files, and more. Use it to edit your sounds using Cut, Copy and Paste (with unlimited Undo), mix tracks together, or apply effects to your recordings. It also has a built-in amplitude envelope editor, a customizable spectrogram mode and a frequency analysis window for audio analysis applications. Built-in effects include Bass Boost, Wahwah, and Noise Removal, and it also supports VST plug-in effects.
Version 1.3.6 highlights exciting new capabilities developed by our students in Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2008, including FFmpeg support, on-demand loading of uncompressed files, linked audio and label tracks, and hierarchical plug-in grouping.
Version 1.3.8 beta now displays VST Effects GUI mode by default, updates Nyquist implementation, and makes improvements to equalization, noise removal, truncate silence, click track, and effects chains. Plot Spectrum analysis has been improved, there are new preferences for spectrograms, and it can record in more than 16 channels (hardware/drivers permitting).

Pros: Sounds promising !
Cons: Can't get it to open. Am in the process of troubleshooting. Anyone have any ideas ?

That i would get to know if i download another , but this is more than sufficient !! -

"Very good sound editor and recorder."
Pros: Pretty easy to use and a good interface, especially on desktop PCs.
Cons: Might not be so good on laptops for recording, due to limitations of some soundcards (this is not a reflection on the program, though). So far, haven't got this version to run properly on Windows 7. However version 1.2.6 works fine!
