Lots of programs saved in your computer do exactly as they please. Many applications consider themselves to be so important that they trigger an auto-start command in the system without being requested. That means that every time the computer is booted up, they are started together with Windows, which isn't always the user's intention. As a result of this, the start sequence becomes considerably longer and manually shutting down most of the unwanted windows immediately afterwards because they simply aren't needed, certainly isn't fun. The Ashampoo StartUp Tuner lists all auto-start entries and allows them to be individually deleted or to be deactivated. If the user proceeds with caution in this area, and at least deactivates all of the unnecessary entries, then they will be able to enjoy a clearly faster start to Windows.

Typically, this kind of program is geared toward more advanced users, but the intuitive Ashampoo StartUp Tuner will appeal to both the computer savvy and the not-so-savvy user.
The program's tabbed-style interface organizes your system's startup programs into five categories: Autostart entries, Services, Software, IE Plugins, and Backups. Everything is so well laid out that, basically all you have to do is click which startup programs that you do or don't want to load automatically. Despite its ease of use, there are dangers in messing with things you don't understand, and the program helpfully cautions users to take care when adding or removing entries under the Software tab. It's easy to accidentally remove what looks like a duplicate entry, but turns out to be a secondary but none-the-less critical program. Help is also found in Services, which explains which common startup functions are required and which are optional.
Should you need it, there's an extensive Help file, but most users will have questions about the startup programs, not how to use Ashampoo Startup Tuner. Although it's listed as freeware, the trial demo will last a mere 10 days if not registered through e-mail. It's worth the time to register this program, though. It's a solid startup manager that any user will appreciate.

"Does more than control startup programs."
Pros: On auto start entries just uncheck the startup programs, that you dont want to start and reboot your computer. On services these are services, that are loaded when windows starts up. Click on any service and at the bottom, it gives a description if the service is necessary to start. If a service is not necessary to start it can be deactivated.
Software shows all installed programs, but is only used to edit entries or delete obsolete entries. It has a feature where you can remove plugins. If you remove a plugin, you may need to reinstall the software associated with it to reactivate the plugin. And it has a backup module, where you can restore the changes in the backup, or delete backups that are no longer needed.
Cons: This product has to be registered to get the full version free.

Pros: It does exactly what I downloaded it to do. It got rid of the icons in my tray that I don't want to start up.
Cons: You have to register with Ashampoo to use this program. I couldn't get it to keep my bluetooth from loading at startup.
