Publisher's description
From Ashampoo :Encode files with sensitive contents so that instead of text and numbers they simply contain an incomprehensible mix of letters. The algorithm is so strong that it isnt possible for anyone to crack the code in a justifiable time period, even if they are able to draw on a very powerful computer. The security methodology isnt only effective against the many confirmed hackers in the internet, but also against the spy who might be lurking in your own office and secretly copying files during the lunch break: Decoding and encoding of selected files with only one mouse click. Complete deletion of files. Seamless integration in the Windows Explorer. The use of the latest encoding technologies Burning onto CD and DVD. Encoding and burning in only a single ste. Encoding and Email dispatch in only a single step. Encoding files to EXE archives and burning them directly onto CD or DVD. Encoding of files to self extracting archives for Email dispatch. Compression of the encoded files.

Version: Ashampoo Magical Security 2
"Not bad at all. 3.75 stars is my rating"
Pros: Simple and reasonably effective. It, as usual with "Ashampoo" has a nice, user friendly GUI with easy to understand buttons and drop down menus. I like that you enter your password once at the programs start and never again during that use. It is good at remembering the password. It will encrypt, or compress and encrypt files and folders then direct from it's interface, burn them to a disk. It works fine with "Vista" and can be purchased cheap thru their "make us an offer" email that you get on occasion as an "Ashampoo" customer. All in all, it's simplicity alone, makes it a good enough application of this type for my needs.
But then again I don't have anything on my computer thats all that sensitive.
Cons: "Ashampoo" is a curiosity. They have some good and some poor software. It seems like their best selling applications are the ones they have made (or they worked with already) updates to for "Vista" compatibility. They will spam you to death , unfortunately for the users, thats part of a successful marketing scheme. The application itself isn't bad at all for an average user. I have some doubts about handing over extremely sensitive data to it and it's one bog fault is files must be decrypted if you want to add them to a flash drive so you can take them with you.

Version: Ashampoo Magical Security 2
Pros: I store all my shareware on my laptop hard drive, each in its own folder with a small text file containing the registration information. With Magical Security it is a trivial matter to encrypt this text file. So, if I love my notebook, then the thief doesn't get all my registation keys.
A slick function included allows you to encrypt many files in a single session, but you have to include your password only once!
Cons: There is a problem. The application is required to be installed in order to unencrypt the encrypted file. So encrypting information on your pen drive becomes a chore (or even impossible) if you try to access that information on a friend's computer. Further, I am not sure what happens at the end of a trial period if you still have encrypted files.
